Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.- Juventino Morfin's (Lincoln HS) goal late in the first half was all the Toros defense would need as Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated San Francisco State 1-0 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action today at Toro Field.

It was a defensive battle the entire first half with both teams combining for only five shots. However, the Toros offense broke through with just seconds to go in the first period when Morfin headed home a shot at 44:35 for his sixth goal of the season. The score was set up when Eduardo Serrano crossed the ball to the far post from the right flank off a free kick. CSUDH's Rick Cobb (Warren HS) saved the ball from going out of the end line and flicked his pass to the head of Morfin who knocked it past San Francisco goalie Russell Miller for the 1-0 lead.

Both teams would come out more offensive-minded in the second half combining for 20 shots, with CSUDH having a 13-7 advantage, but neither offense would put up a tally in the final 45 minutes of play. Toros goalie Javier Barragan (LB Jordan HS) registered two saves for his eighth shutout of the year. That mark now places him second all-time for shutouts in a season. He is four shy of breaking the all-time mark (12) set by Luis Morales in 2001. SFSU goalkeeper Russell Miller took the loss while making four saves on the day.

With the win CSUDH, ranked No. 5 in the NCAA II national poll, remains unbeaten at home with a 9-0-1 record. The Toros are now 12-2-1 overall and remain atop the CCAA Central Division standings with a perfect 9-0-0 record. SFSU drops to 4-11-0 overall and 3-6-0 in league play.

The squad will hit the road for the next three games before returning home on Oct. 30 to face Cal State Bakersfield in its final regular season home game. First kick is set for 3 PM.
