Oct. 20 CSUDH @ UC Davis Aggie Field, 12:30 PM

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Toros look to get back on the winning track as they travel to NoCal to take on Chico State and UC Davis on Friday and Sunday.

A QUICK LOOK BACK:
After putting together a great week in the Emerald City of Seattle, the Toros came back home and suffered its first consecutive losses on the 2002 campaign. CSUDH will attempt to avert their first 3-game losing streak since the 2000 season this Friday in Chico.

SONOMA STATE GETS BY TOROS, 2-1:
Sonoma State broke a 1-1 tie in the 66th minute to forge a 2-1 win over host Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association action last Friday at Toro Field. SSU struck first in the first half when Megan Morrow took advantage of Toros goalie Alba Garcia's (Don Lugo HS) defensive miscue. At 30:33, Garcia came out of the box to clear a ball, but she missed the kick allowing Morrow to steal the ball and score the open-netter. It stayed that way until the second half, when CSUDH tallied the equalizer. Midfielder Tanya Wilson (Palm Springs HS) collected a loose ball in front of the goalmouth and hit her shot to the far post making it 1-1. But the Seawolves came back with the game-winner nine minutes later when Adriana Diaz took a beautiful right side cross from Lenee Biles and headed her shot to the near post at 65:52. The Toros would pressure forward the rest of the way, but the Sonoma defense was able to hold on for the 2-1 win. In the game, CSUDH outshot SSU 16-11 including a 9-4 advantage in the second half.

GATORS TAKE BITE OUT OF TOROS, 3-2:
Megan Elliot's late second half goal gave visiting San Francisco State the 3-2 upset victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association victory Sunday at Toro Field. SFSU's Ashley Relf put the Gators up 1-0 in the 13th minute when she took a Jenae Kee pass at midfield and beat Toros goalie Alba Garcia to the near post. Tanya Wilson got the Toros even at 25:06 with her fourth goal of the season. Forward Laci Gruner (Mayfair HS) threw in a pass to Erin Fieger (Mira Costa HS) on the right side who then flicked her pass to Wilson, who then knocked her shot to the far post for the equalizer, 1-1. Maya Patrick put the Gators back up just before intermission heading in a shot at the goalmouth off a pass from Brooke Braunschweig at 43:29. CSUDH came back again to tie the match early in the second half. Defender Chantel Eastwood (Mayfair HS) served the ball to Gruner in the box who passed to freshman Michelle Sena (San Pedro HS) to the far side of the goal. Sena then knocked in her first collegiate goal to the far post just past the outstretched San Francisco goalie Kelly Hoover making it 2-2. It looked as if the match was going into overtime but Elliot knocked in the game-winner at 82:30. Patrick hit a shot from 35 yards away that Garcia was unable to control. Elliot took the rebound, collected the ball and knocked it to the near post for the match-winner.

TORO TRAILS:
The Toros are on a mini 2-game skid and will look to right the ship this weekend. Senior forward Dianne Garza continues to lead the team with 19 points on 9 goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Tanya Wilson (4g, 3a) and senior midfielder Kim Acino (4g, 3a) follow with 11 points each. In goal, junior Alba Garcia has compiled a 1.08 goals against average. In 15 starts, all of Garcia's wins have been by shutout. She is now 7-5-3 on the season. As a team, the Toros have outscored the opposition 89-49 and has a 29-17 advantage in goals scored.

EYEING CCAA TOURNAMENT:
The Toros enter the week ranked No. 8 in the Far West Region. With hopes of an NCAA playoff berth all but dashed, CSUDH will turn its eye to the CCAA Tournament to be held Nov. 7-10 at a site yet to be determined. But first the Toros will have to shake off CS Stanislaus who trail them by only three points with five games left to play. The CCAA tourney takes the winners of each division plus the wild card, which now appears to be coming out of the south division.
