Box Score
In a women's soccer game, Cal State Dominguez
Hills used the same combination to score at the end of the half
and then early in the second period to come from behind and beat
the Wildcats 2-1.
Dominguez Hills (8-5-3, 5-4-1 CCAA) entered the
match leading the Central Division, despite having won just one of
its last five games. Chico State (9-5-1, 5-4-1 CCAA) has now lost
two straight after riding a six-game winning streak, which
included four-straight shutouts.
In the 43rd minute, Laci Gruner headed a ball
from 15-yard out into the goal on an assist by teammate Norma
Gutierrez to tie the score. They then repeated the play five
minutes into the second half. This time Gutierrez fed Gruner a
longer ball from the middle of the field, resulting in a shorter
header form inside the box for the winning goal. Gruner now has
four goals on the year and Gutierrez has three saves.
Chico State got on the board first in the 29th
minute when Taylor Brooks fed a ball from the left side to Heather
Moonjian at about the 20-yard mark. Moonjian ripped off a high,
lofting shot which Dominguez Hills keeper, Leslie Taylor, fully
extended got her hands on, but couldn't pull it down for the save.
It was Moonjian's first goal of the season and Brook's third save.
Dominguez Hills travels to Davis this Sunday
for a 12:30 start. Chico State hosts Cal State L.A. Sunday at
11:00.
