THIS WEEK IN TOROS CROSS COUNTRY
Oct. 26 CCAA Championships Bakersfield, CA
TOROS GEAR UP FOR CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
After a week of rest, the Toros should be ready for the 2002 CCAA
Championships this weekend, hosted by Cal State Bakersfield. The
Toros will be competing against conference rivals in the 6, 000
meter course on the Bakersfield campus. Starting gun sounds at
10:00 am.
A LOOK BACK AT THE SEASON
- Toros Compete at UC Irvine Cross Country
Invitational -- September 7, 2002: The Cal State Dominguez
Hills cross country team kicked off the 2002 season, by
competing in the UC Irvine Invitational at Central Park in
Huntington Beach, CA.The Toros were among many top Division I,
Division II and NAIA programs to compete in the 5K run. The top
finisher for CSUDH was Victoria Flores, who clocked in with a
time of 21:09.2, placing her 64th in the 114 athlete field.
Aracne Hernandez was not far behind Flores, crossing the line at
21:27.3.The final two runners for the Toros, Isha Shepard and
Kendria Spratt, finished in the 107 and 108 slots with times of
26:04.1 and 26:06.7.
- Toros Run at Fresno State Cross Country
Invitational -- September 16, 2002: The Cal State Dominguez
Hills cross-country team was in action at the Fresno State
Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno.The Toros were competing
among top Division I and II teams, as well as many CCAA
opponents. CSUDH finished in 13th place with a team score of
383. Toro Aracne Hernandez was the top finisher for CSUDH with a
time on 20:06 on the 3.1 mile course. Victoria Flores, who was
the top CSUDH finisher in the previous week, clocked in at
21:08. The rest of the team, checked in as follows: Sherron
Rhetta 24:11, Kendria Spratt 24:26, Peace Udechukwa 24:37, Isha
Shepard 25:34, and Olapeju Ajibola 26:36.
- Toros Cross Country Runs at UC Riverside
Invitational -- September 21, 2002: The Cal State Dominguez
Hills cross country team was in action at the UC Riverside
Invitational, held on the campus of UC Riverside. Aracne
Hernandez was the Toros top finisher again as she had a strong
race, placing 23 out of 147 athletes. She clocked in at
20:24.2.The next Toro to cross the line was Victoria Flores who
stopped watches at 21:14.90. The rest of the Toros finished
throughout the talented pack of runners. The meet was won by
Azusa Pacific University who totaled 45 team points. CSUDH
finished with 314 points and had a team time average of 24:13.
- Toros Cross Country Team Competes at
Biola Invitational -- October 5, 2002: The Cal State
Dominguez Hills cross-country team was in full throttle at the
Biola Invitational in La Mirada, CA. The Toros took an eighth
place finish with a total time of 1:57:34 and an average of
23:30. The top Toro finisher was once again Aracne Albarran who
clocked in with an impressive 19:33.5 time on the course. It was
good enough for a 30th place finish, as well as one of her top
times of the season. Victoria Flores was just behind Albarran,
crossing the line at 19:38.5. The meet was won by Track West,
who had most of their runners finish in the top tier of
athletes.
- Toros Women's Cross Country Team Runs at
UC San Diego Invitational -- October 12, 2002: The Cal State
Dominguez Hills cross country team was in competition at the UC
San Diego Invitational in San Diego, CA. The meet featured many
top Division I, II and III programs. The Toros took a seventh
place finish as a squad and the top Toro finish once again was
Aracne Albarran. The senior crossed the line in the 6K race with
a time of 24:35.8. Victoria Flores was the second Toro to cross
once again this week as she finished with a time of 24:56.2. The
duo have been the one and two finishers for CSUDH for most of
the season. Picolya McCall had a strong meet today, clocking in
at 25:13. The total team time was 2:14:47.00 and the Toro
average 26:57.40.
