THIS WEEK IN TOROS SOCCER
Oct. 26 CSUDH @ Cal State Stanislaus Warrior Soccer Field, 3 PM

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Toros will complete a three-game stretch of games against NoCal teams with a single game this weekend against Cal State Stanislaus. Kick off is set for 3 PM. The Toros will return home on Wed., Oct. 30 for its regular season home finale hosting Cal State Bakersfield.

A QUICK LOOK BACK:
During a 2-game trip to NoCal last weekend, CSUDH defeated Chico State 2-1 on Friday night then suffered a 3-0 setback against UC Davis on Sunday afternoon.

UC DAVIS DEALS LOSS TO TOROS, 3-0:
CSUDH ended its two-game weekend NoCal swing with a 3-0 defeat against UC Davis last Sunday. Leslie Taylor (Ayala HS) suffered her first loss in goal while making five saves in the match. UCD took the lead at 16:58 then made it 2-0 just second before the half to take control. The Aggies then sealed the victory in the 66th minute for the final, 3-0. The best scoring chance for the visitors came early when Dianne Garza (Temple City HS) had a breakaway with only the goalie to beat. However, her shot inside the box went wide left in the 5th minute. In the game, Davis outshot the Toros 14-10. Four Toro players contributed with two shots each.

TOROS COME FROM BEHIND, NIP WILDCATS 2-1:
The Toros had the right combination to snap a two-game losing skid last Friday with a 2-1 CCAA road victory over Chico State. Down 0-1, CSUDH's Laci Gruner (Mayfair HS) tied the contest with a header in the 43rd minute. Gruner took a cross from midfielder Norma Gutierrez (Santa Clara HS) and headed home her third goal of the year from 15-yards out to send the game into the break tied, 1-1. CSUDH used the same combination for the game-winner just five minutes into the second half. Gutierrez fed a long ball from the middle of the field finding the head of Gruner at the goalmouth for the winning shot. Backup goalie Leslie Taylor, starting in place of injured Alba Garcia (Don Lugo HS), earned her first win of the year while making two saves, both in the second half. In the game, the Toros outshot the Wildcats 12-4.

GARCIA ON SHELF FOR SEASON:
Junior goalie Alba Garcia is out for the season after breaking her leg last week. Garcia, the backup goalie for the Mexico National Team, sustanied her injury while practicing last Tuesday night with the Mexican squad. Garcia suffered two breaks in her leg but is expected to make a full recovery for the start of the 2003 campaign.

STILL ON TOP IN CCAA CENTRAL:
Despite losing three of its last five games, the Toros still find themselves on top of the CCAA Central Division standings with a precarious three point lead. CSUDH has the Seawolves of Sonoma State to thank for that after defeating second place squad Cal State Stanislaus last Sunday, 1-0.

SHOWDOWN IN TURLOCK:
With a 3-point lead over Cal State Stanislaus in the CCAA Central Division, this Saturday's game in Turlock will have playoff implications to say the least. With a win, the Toros will clinch the division putting them up by six points with two matches to play. If the Toros win on Saturday and eventually end up tying with CSUS for the CCAA Central Division title, CSUDH would win the tie-breaker based on head-to-head play with the Toros winning the early matchup here in Carson.

TORO TRAILS:
After splitting their CCAA games last weekend in NoCal, the Toros are 4-4-1 and atop the CCAA Central Division. The squad is 8-6-3 overall having lost three of its last four games. CSUDH finds themselves ranked No. 7 in this week's NSCAA Far West Region poll. Senior forward Dianne Garza continues to lead the team with 19 points on 9 goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Tanya Wilson (4g, 3a) and senior midfielder Kim Acino (4g, 3a) follow with 11 points each. Junior forward Laci Gruner is now in double figures offensively with 10 points (4g, 2a) in 10 games played. Defender, turned backup goalie Leslie Taylor has compiled a 2.00 goals against average after being pushed into service over the weekend from her normal defender position. Taylor allowed four goals over two games while making 7 saves.

LEAGUE LEADERS:
Despite being in an offensive slump, not having scored since the Seattle Pacific game on Oct. 4, Dianne Garza still leads the CCAA in scoring (19) and goals scored (9). The senior also is among the top ten in four other categories. Junior Tanya Wilson is also among the league leaders in shots (44) and shots per game (2.59). Prior to her injury, goalie Alba Garcia was among the top in five categories including third is saves (80) and shutouts (7).
