TURLOCK The Warriors had a number of
opportunities to take a match from Cal State Dominguez Hills
Saturday afternoon. But in the end, the Warriors came up short as
the visiting Toros defeated CSU Stanislaus, 2-0, in womens
soccer.
With the victory, Dominguez Hills extends its
California Collegiate Athletic Association Central Division lead
to two games over the Warriors with two matches remaining and
clinches a spot in the upcoming CCAA women's soccer tourney.
The Warriors came out strong and was on the
attack for much of the first half. CSU Stanislaus out-shot the
Toros 12-6 in the first half, but came up empty on the scoreboard.
Lecia Davis gave Dominguez Hills a 1-0 lead
with 11 seconds left to play in the first half on a runaway goal
as the speedy Toro splited the defenders and beat Stanislaus
goalkeeper Breanna Vaughan.
In the first half, the Warriors missed a few
scoring opportunities with shots going wide. Toro goalkeeper
Leslie Taylor also had some saves before finishing with six.
In the second half, the Warriors had a golden
chance to tie the score at the 59:08 mark when Jennifer Richmonds
penalty kick shot was saved by Taylor.
CSUDH (9-6-3, 6-5-1 CCAA) then took another
Warrior turnover in for a score ion the 86th minute when Joanna
Morgan finished off a play set-up by Elizabeth Arreloa and Lecia
Davis.
Vaughan finished with five saves for CSUS.
Next up the Toros host Cal State Bakersfield on
Wednesday afternoon. Start is 12:30 p.m. |
