THE SCOUTING REPORT

TOROS VS. 'RUNNERS SERIES NOTES:
CSUDH leads the series 6-4-3 and owns a 4-1-2 advantage in Carson. The Toros rallied for a 1-1 tie in the first meeting this season. Bakersfield took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute before Tanya Wilson (Palm Springs HS) equalized for the Toros in the 78th.

SCOUTING THE 'RUNNERS:
Bakersfield enters the week with a 5-11-2 overall record and are third in the CCAA Central with a 3-8-1 mark. CSUB broke a 3-game skid last Saturday with a 2-0 win over Cal State L.A. Two sophomore defender's lead the squad in scoring in Erica Craven and Adrianne Almaraz with 10 points each. In goal, Stephanie Hall has recorded a 1.54 GAA allowing 15 goals in 10 matches played.

TOROS VS. GOLDEN EAGLES SERIES NOTES:
CSUDH holds a perfect record against Cal State L.A. leading the all-time series 13-0-0. Earlier this year in Carson, the Toros defeated the Golden Eagles 4-0 behind the game-winning goal from Kristen Walsh (Mayfair HS) in the second half.

THE FLIGHT OF THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
CSULA's season got off on a solid start winning two of the first three games. However, a five and six match losing streak, wrapped around a 3-game win streak, resulted in its current 5-12-0 overall mark. The Golden Eagles are at the bottom of the CCAA Central with a 3-10-0 record. Paula Wizel leads the team with 11 points (3g, 5a). In goal, Alicia Parkhouse has a 1.93 GAA with one shutout on the year.

THIS WEEK IN TOROS SOCCER
Oct. 30 CSUDH vs. Cal State Bakersfield Toro Field, 12:30 PM
Nov. 2 CSUDH @ Cal State L.A. Jesse Owens Stadium, 12:30 PM

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Toros close out their home schedule on Wednesday with a game against Cal State Bakersfield. CSUDH will close out the regular season schedule on the road with a match against Cal State LA on Saturday. After this week, the Toros will prepare for the CCAA Championship Tournament to be held Nov. 7-10.

A QUICK LOOK BACK:
The Toros clinched its second consecutive CCAA Central Division title with a road win at Cal State Stanislaus, 2-0, last Saturday. The team has now won two if its last three games.

TOROS SHUTOUT WARRIORS FOR DIVISION TITLE, 2-0:
The Toros clinched its second consecutive California Collegiate Athletic Association Central Division title with a road shutout over Cal State Stanislaus last Saturday, 2-0. The win assures CSUDH of a berth in the upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament, Nov. 7-10. The Toros sustained a steady Warrior attack in the first half as CSU Stanislaus out-shot the Toros 12-6 in the first period, but came up empty on the scoreboard. Toro goalie Leslie Taylor (Ayala HS) registered five saves in the first half alone. Cal State Dominguez Hills got the game-winner from senior Lecia Davis (N. Torrance HS) with just 11 seconds left to play in the first half on a runaway goal. The speedy midfielder, who was playing up top against the Warriors, split two defenders and beat Stanislaus goalkeeper Breanna Vaughan for a 1-0 lead at 44:49. In the second half, the Warriors had a golden chance to tie the score at the 59:08 after being awarded a penalty kick. But CSUDH goalie Leslie Taylor, in only her third career start in goal, dove to her left and smothered the shot to preserve the shutout. With just over four minutes remaining in the game, the Toros tallied an insurance goal. The CSUDH defense forced a Warrior turnover and turned it into a score in the 86th minute. Sophomore midfielder Joanna Morgan (St. Joseph's HS) finished off a play set-up by Elizabeth Arreola (Redondo Union HS) and Lecia Davis.

TOROS CCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY:
The Toros wrapped up its second consecutive CCAA Central Division title after the win over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, 2-0. The win clinches a berth into the CCAA Championship Tournament for the second straight year. Since the inception of the league championship event five years ago in 1998, CSUDH has qualified four times and captured the inaugural event held in Bakersfield with a 1-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona. In 1999, CPP exacted a bit of revenge against the Toros with a 1-0 four-overtime win in the championship game at Sonoma during a torrential downpour of rain. In 2000, CSUDH missed the championship event, for the first and only time, after being eliminated with a 1-0 loss to Bakersfield in the final game of the season. Last year, CSUDH advanced to the tournament only to drop a 2-1 game in the semifinals to Cal Poly Pomona in La Jolla, CA.

SONOMA STATE TO HOST CCAA TOURNAMENT:
It was announced today that the 2002 California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's and Women's Soccer Championship Tournaments will be held at Seawolf Soccer Field in Rohnert Park, CA. The women's semifinals will be played on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The women's championship match is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. Sonoma was selected to host the event because of two factors. CCAA legislation mandated priority to a north institution to host the 2002 tournaments, and Sonoma State's men's team is currently the only squad in the north division to have qualified for the event.

TORO TRAILS:
The squad is 9-6-3 overall and 6-5-1 in CCAA play. CSUDH finds themselves ranked No. 8 in this week's NSCAA Far West Region coaches poll. Senior forward Dianne Garza (Temple HS) continues to lead the team with 19 points on 9 goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Tanya Wilson (4g, 3a) and senior midfielder Kim Acino (4g, 3a) follow with 11 points each. Junior forward Laci Gruner gives the Toros four players in double figures with 10 points (4g, 2a). Defender, turned backup goalie Leslie Taylor has compiled a 1.33 goals against average after being pushed into service after Alba Garcia went down to a season-ending leg injury two weeks ago.

AROUND THE CCAA:
While CSDH wrapped up the Central Division crown with its win over Stanislaus last week, the other two divisions are still up in the air. In the north division, Sonoma State handed UC Davis a 2-1 defeat Saturday and now has a one-point lead with two matches remaining. In the south division, UC San Diego has clinched at least a wildcard bid with 30 points. Cal Poly Pomona can still catch the Tritons for the division crown, but trails by three points with just two matches left.
