LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A. womens
goalie Alicia Parkhouse moved into second place on the schools
all-time career goalie saves list, but the Golden Eagles (5-13,
3-11 CCAA) lost its final game of the season to crosstown-rival
Cal State Dominguez Hills (11-6-3, 8-5-1 CCAA) on Saturday
afternoon at Jesse Owens Stadium, 2-0. In the nightcap, the Toro
men (16-3-1, 13-1 CCAA) made it a sweep of Cal State L.A. (5-13,
3-11 CCAA), earning a 3-0 decision.
In the womens game, the Golden Eagles
played the Toros tough from the outset. Senior Jamie Kupper and
junior Monica McAfee kept pressure on Cal State Dominguez Hills
goalie, while Parkhouse did her part in keeping the game
scoreless, stopping four shots in the half.
The game seemed destined to enter halftime
scoreless, but a header by the Toros Lindsay Dragich gave
the visitors the 1-0 lead at the 44:58 mark. Continuing the
momentum from the last second goal to close the first half, the
Toros added to their lead at the 53:03 mark on a one-timer.
Cal State L.A. continued to fight, however, and
barely missed on a few good opportunities, but CSUDH held on for
the 2-0 shutout win.
In the nightcap, CSUDHs Eduardo Serrano
scored twice, including once on a corner kick early in the match,
to give the Toros a 3-0 win.
Jaime Beltran, pressed into goalkeeping
service, stopped five shots -- many at point-blank range -- in the
loss.
