Toros Suffer First Loss of Young Season to Hot Shooting Lancers, 89-66

RIVERSIDE, Calif.--The Cal State Dominguez Hills men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the young season to a hot-shooting Cal Baptist squad, 89-66, in Riverside on Monday night in non-conference action.

The Lancers shot a blazing 54% from the field in the first half including 47% from three-point range (7-15) to take control early. The Toros, on the other hand, only managed 37% in the first half (11-30). Cal Baptist used a 16-3 run to close out the first half, and led by as many as 18 points. But a Robert Tossetti (San Bernardino, CA/San Bernardino Valley JC) three-point shot from the corner with 1:02 left sent the game into the intermission at 40-27.

CBU used a 17-3 run to begin the second half to go up 57-33. The Lancers would build its lead to as many as 30 points (85-55) late in the game before settling for the 89-66 final.

CSUDH forward Justin Goree (Fairfield, CA/Foothill CC) led all scorers with 23 points on 10-14 from the floor including 3-5 from long-range. The 6-4 senior also registered a game-high 9 rebounds in the losing cause. Andre Brown (San Jose, CA/USF) followed with 13 points on the night on 5-16 shooting. As a team, the Toros shot 40% for the game (25-63) and 35% from beyond the arc (5-14).

Drew Twiss led six Cal Baptist players in double figures with 19 points, including a game-high four three-point baskets. Drew Langstraat was 6-8 from the floor and followed with 14 points and grabbed a team-best 7 boards. Matt Elder came off the bench and chipped in with 13 points. The Lancers shot nearly 51% from the field (31-61) for the game. CBU was not shy from long-range chucking up 31 three-point attempts while making 14 of them (45%).

The Toros are off until December 5 when they host Cal State LA in its league opener. Tip-off in the Torodome is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
