TOROS CAN'T HOLD LEAD, FALL AT MONTEREY BAY:
Cal State Dominguez Hills couldn't hold on to a one-point halftime lead at Cal State Monterey Bay losing the non-conference game, 66-53 Saturday night at the Otter Sports Center. CSUDH took a 29-28 lead into the break, thanks in part to freshman center Ryan Meilleur (Lakewood/Artesia HS) who had 11 first half points while the team shot a hot 59% from the field (13-22). The Toros were also dominant on the glass in the first 20 minutes out-rebounding the Otters 16-4. But CSUMB (2-9) came out strong in the second period taking the lead on its first possession, 31-29, on three free throws to start the second half. The Otters extended its lead to five points over the first five minutes before the Toros would mount a small comeback. Meilleur hit a short jumper at 11:19 giving CSUDH a 40-39 lead. Both teams would trade baskets over the next four minutes to keep it close. Freshman guard Saul Lankster's (Long Beach/Centennial HS) two free throws tied the game, 47-47, at the 7:16 mark. Monterey Bay would take the lead in their next possession that they would never relinquish. The Otters held the Toros to one point over the next six minutes while going on a 11-1 run to take a 58-48 lead with 1:20 left. CSUMB hit 8-9 free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win. Meilleur led the Toros with 17 points and 8 boards. Senior forward Andre Brown (San Jose/USF) followed with 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. In the game, CSUDH shot 46% (22-48) and out-rebounded Monterey Bay 31-24.

HOME SWEET HOME:
The Toros are looking to get back on track on Wednesday hosting Dominican in the friendly confines of the Torodome. CSUDH in undefeated at home (2-0) and has won eight of its last 11 home games dating back to last year. The Toros will be searching for its first road win of the season on Saturday at Cal State L.A.

EXPERIENCE HELPS:
Of the 11 players that played in Saturday's loss at CSUMB, seven are new to the program. Three of the starting five on Saturday are playing their first season in a CSUDH uniform. The Toros took on a tough, battle-tested Otters squad who had already played seven more games than CSUDH prior to Saturday night.

GOREE AND MEILLEUR LEAD TEAM IN SCORING:
Senior forward Justin Goree (Fairfield, CA) and Meilleur pace the Toros offensive charge averaging 14.3 points each. Goree is playing in a team-high 38 minutes per game while Meilleur is seeing nearly 26 minutes a game, mostly off the bench. Meilleur earned his first start of the young year at Monterey Bay. Meilleur also leads the team in FG% making .583 of his shots (21-36) from the field.

WINDOW CLEANERS:
Meilleur and Andre' Brown have been cleaning up on the glass while leading the Toros in rebounding. The 6-8 frosh has 27 boards in four games for a 6.8 average. Brown, a 6-5 senior forward, has 26 rebounds, including a team-high 12 on the offensive end.

TOROS SUFFERING AT THE LINE:
The Toros haven't gotten off to a good start at the free-throw line as of yet in the early going. After four games, CSUDH is making only .563 of its attempts (40-71). Opponents, on the other hand, are shooting .731 from the charity stripe (68-93).

GAY EXPECTED TO MAKE DEBUT THIS WEEK:
Freshman guard Jamel Gay (Carson/Artesia HS) is expected to make his Toros debut this week after having to sit out the first four games due to injury. In preseason practice, Gay suffered a stress fracture to his left ankle. The 6-1 first-year player is one of coach Hauser's top recruits. Gay was ranked 66th statewide and 16th at his position by HoopScoop and SoCalHoops. He will come off the bench this week, but once he is in "game shape" he could vie for a starting spot.

LANKSTER LOOMING LARGE:
Freshman Saul Lankster (Long Beach/Centennial HS) continues to make great strides early on. In 14 minutes off the bench at Monterey Bay, Lankster scored 9 points on 3-4 shooting including his first 3-point basket of his promising future. The 6-3 guard also grabbed two offensive boards for the Toros and went 2-4 from the free-throw line.

LAWRENCE MAKES RETURN:
Lamar Lawrence (Hawthorne/Bishop Montgomery HS) made his return to the lineup Saturday night after sitting out the last two games with a foot injury. His appearance was uneventful in 13 minutes. However, the 6-5 junior gives the Toros another big man around the basket and another option for Hauser to use off the bench.
