vs. Grand Canyon/Saturday, Jan. 11/7:30 PM

QUICK RECAP:
CSUDH lost its third and fourth consecutive games last Friday and Saturday. The losses drop the team to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in CCAA action. The Toros attempt to win its first road game of the season did not come to pass after being swept in CCAA games against Cal Poly Pomona (55-52) and Cal State San Bernardino (62-50).

TOROS BEGIN FOUR-GAME HOMESTAND:
The team begins its longest homestand of the season on Friday with a 4-game home stretch in the Torodome. Grand Canyon will visit on Saturday followed by San Francisco St. and Sonoma State on Jan. 17-18.

TOROS LOSE LOW-SCORING CCAA TILT TO CAL POLY POMONA, 55-42:
Cal State Dominguez Hills lost a low-scoring CCAA affair on Friday night, 55-42, to host Cal Poly Pomona. CSUDH held its final lead of the game early, 6-5, at the 16:51 mark. Cal Poly Pomona took the lead for good on a three-point basket by at 15:47. The Toros would stay within a point over the next four minutes, the last time at 11:18 after Charles Logan (Moreno Valley/Valley View HS) drained a 3-pointer making it 12-11 Cal Poly. The Broncos would use a 13-3 run over the next eight minutes to forge a 27-16 lead with 2:44 left in the half. CPP eventually went into the locker room up by 13 points, 32-19. Cal State Dominguez Hills opened up the second period on a 12-8 run to trim the Pomona lead down to nine points, 40-31, on a nice 10-foot turnaround jumper by Andre Brown (San Jose, CA) with 9:43 left in the game. The Toros went cold from the floor after that going scoreless while making three un-forced turnovers over the next 5:18 allowing the Broncos to build its lead back up the 12 points, 45-33, with 4:25 left in the game. CPP led by as many as 17 points in the final three minutes before CSUDH mounted a small rally to close within ten points. With the score 50-33 at the 2:54 minute mark, the Toros went on a 7-0 spurt highlighted by a 3-point basket from senior forward Justin Goree (Fairfield, CA) to make it 50-40 with 1:33 remaining. But that was as close as the Toros would get as Cal Poly sent CSUDH to its third consecutive loss, 55-42. Senior Michael Crawford (Pacoima/Simi Valley HS) led the squad in scoring off the bench with 15 points and 11 rebounds. No other player was in double figures. CSUDH outrebounded Cal Poly 35-33 in the game. But poor shooting of 29% (14-47), combined with CPP shooting 46%, sealed the CCAA loss.

COYOTES MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE WITH WIN OVER TOROS, 62-50:
Cal State San Bernardino moved into a tie for first place in the CCAA while earning its fifth straight win Saturday night against the Toros, 62-50. The game was tied, 13-13, with nine minutes left in the first half. But CSUSB closed out the first period on a 22-12 run to take a 35-25 advantage into the half. In the second half, the Toros got as close as 47-41 with six minutes left in the game but would get no closer. Forced to foul, CSUSB made 8-14 from the free throw line down the stretch to hold on for the win. Goree paced the Toros with 10 points and junior guard Geovanny Aispuro (Long Beach/LB Jordan HS) had a season-high 9 points going 3-4 from beyond the 3-point line. Logan led the squad with a season-best 8 rebounds.

AISPURO SCORES SEASON-HIGH NINE VS. CSUSB:
Junior Geovanny Aispuro scored a season-best 9 points against Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday. Aispuro scored all his points past the 3-point arc going 3-4. Since being thrust into the starting point-guard position after Eduardo Morales went down with a knee injury on Dec. 21, Aispuro has started to get more comfortable running the Toros offense. Against San Bernardino, Aispuro dished out a season-high four assists. In three games running the point, he has averaged 2.0 apg while shooting 46% from the field (6-13).

BRONCOS + TOROS = LOW SCORING AFFAIR:

CSUDH tallied just 42 of the points, its lowest offensive output since Feb. 2, 2001 when they scored just 38 against Cal State Bakersfield. Prior to Friday, the lowest combined score was 104 points in a 54-50 win over Dominican.

CRAWFORD SOLID OFF THE BENCH:

TOROS CAN'T REBOUND DESPITE OUTREBOUNDING:
The Toros are outrebounding opponents on average of 33-32 this year, but the results have been a 3-6 record thus far. Over the weekend, CSUDH beat Cal Poly (35-33) and Cal State San Bernardino (34-33) on the boards but the results were the same...a tough loss. The Toros even outshot CSUSB 42% - 37%, but 18 turnovers and only six trips to the free throw line compared to 10 turnovers and 35 visits to the charity stripe sealed the defeat for the Carson squad.

LANKSTER EARNS FIRST START:
Freshman guard Saul Lankster (Long Beach/Compton Centennial HS) earned his first start of the season at Cal State San Bernardino. After a strong game against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday scoring eight points on 3-5 shooting, Lankster earned the starting nod against the Coyotes. He found himself in foul trouble much of the night playing in 19 minutes scoring two points, dishing out two assists and recording a blocked shot.

MEILLEUR QUITE A STEAL:
Freshman big-man Ryan Meilleur (Lakewood/Artesia HS) leads the Toros in a category you wouldn't expect. The 6-foot-8 center has 14 steals in nine games which ranks 11th in the CCAA. Meilleur also leads the squad in blocks with nine in the early going.

LOGAN GRABS SPOTLIGHT:
Junior Charles Logan grabbed the spotlight in front of a home crowd on the road at San Bernardino. Logan, a transfer from San Bernardino Valley JC, pulled down a season-high eight rebounds to lead the Toros in the losing effort in the Inland Valley Saturday night.
