QUICK RECAP:
CSUDH lost its third and fourth consecutive games last Friday and
Saturday. The losses drop the team to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in CCAA
action. The Toros attempt to win its first road game of the season
did not come to pass after being swept in CCAA games against Cal
Poly Pomona (55-52) and Cal State San Bernardino (62-50).
TOROS BEGIN FOUR-GAME HOMESTAND:
The team begins its longest homestand of the season on Friday with
a 4-game home stretch in the Torodome. Grand Canyon will visit on
Saturday followed by San Francisco St. and Sonoma State on Jan.
17-18.
TOROS LOSE LOW-SCORING CCAA TILT TO CAL
POLY POMONA, 55-42:
Cal State Dominguez Hills lost a low-scoring CCAA affair on Friday
night, 55-42, to host Cal Poly Pomona. CSUDH held its final lead
of the game early, 6-5, at the 16:51 mark. Cal Poly Pomona took
the lead for good on a three-point basket by at 15:47. The Toros
would stay within a point over the next four minutes, the last
time at 11:18 after Charles Logan (Moreno Valley/Valley View HS)
drained a 3-pointer making it 12-11 Cal Poly. The Broncos would
use a 13-3 run over the next eight minutes to forge a 27-16 lead
with 2:44 left in the half. CPP eventually went into the locker
room up by 13 points, 32-19. Cal State Dominguez Hills opened up
the second period on a 12-8 run to trim the Pomona lead down to
nine points, 40-31, on a nice 10-foot turnaround jumper by Andre
Brown (San Jose, CA) with 9:43 left in the game. The Toros went
cold from the floor after that going scoreless while making three
un-forced turnovers over the next 5:18 allowing the Broncos to
build its lead back up the 12 points, 45-33, with 4:25 left in the
game. CPP led by as many as 17 points in the final three minutes
before CSUDH mounted a small rally to close within ten points.
With the score 50-33 at the 2:54 minute mark, the Toros went on a
7-0 spurt highlighted by a 3-point basket from senior forward
Justin Goree (Fairfield, CA) to make it 50-40 with 1:33 remaining.
But that was as close as the Toros would get as Cal Poly sent
CSUDH to its third consecutive loss, 55-42. Senior Michael
Crawford (Pacoima/Simi Valley HS) led the squad in scoring off the
bench with 15 points and 11 rebounds. No other player was in
double figures. CSUDH outrebounded Cal Poly 35-33 in the game. But
poor shooting of 29% (14-47), combined with CPP shooting 46%,
sealed the CCAA loss.

CCAA while earning its fifth straight win Saturday night against
the Toros, 62-50. The game was tied, 13-13, with nine minutes left

the field (6-13).

year, but the results have been a 3-6 record thus far. Over the
weekend, CSUDH beat Cal Poly (35-33) and Cal State San Bernardino
(34-33) on the boards but the results were the same...a tough
loss. The Toros even outshot CSUSB 42% - 37%, but 18 turnovers and
only six trips to the free throw line compared to 10 turnovers and
35 visits to the charity stripe sealed the defeat for the Carson
squad.
