SCOUTING REPORT

SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO STATE San Francisco State is posting a 6-5 overall record and a 2-4 record in CCAA action. They were split in competition last week, posting a solid 75-60 win over Cal State Stanislaus, but suffering a 68-82 fall to Cal State Bakersfield. Jennifer Kutz was the top scorer for the Gators in both of those outings as she averaged 21 points per game on the series. Kutz was also the top rebounder as well with 27 total boards on the weekend. Kutz is leading the Gators scoring charge with 12.7 ppg. She has connected on 60 of 135 field goal attempts and is dominating the glass with 7.5 rpg. Chrissy Ridenour has also been strong for SFSU on the year. The center is putting in 11.4 ppg. and is pulling down 7.1 rpg. This is the 17th meeting between the two teams with the Toros holding an 11-5 series lead. The last time these squads faced off was on February 22, 2002 when the Toros suffered a 50-67 setback to the Gators in San Francisco.

SCOUTING SONOMA STATE The Seawolves went 0-2 in action last week, with losses to Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State Stanislaus. The loss to CSUS was a 74-76 overtime defeat. Jessica Jones is leading SSU with 15.2 ppg and 6.3 rpg. Tara Whiteside is adding 13.1 ppg to the Seawolves effort on offense. SSU is outrebounding its opponents 461-374. The team is bringing down 41.9 boards per game. The squad is also consistent from the charity stripe, connecting on 77% of their attempts. Saturday's contest will mark the 23rd meeting of the two teams with the Toros holding a 13-9 lead. The last time the teams met was on February 23, 2002, when SSU defeated the Toros 64-45.

TOROS CONTINUE HOMESTAND THIS WEEK
Cal State Dominguez Hills will continue their four game homestand this weekend as they host the San Francisco State/Sonoma State series this weekend. The Toros went 1-1 last on last weekend's competition, picking up their first home win of the season with a 63-45 win over Grand Canyon University. With that win, the Toros evened up their season record at 5-5 overall and their CCAA ledger at 3-3. First up on Friday night are the Gators of San Francisco State University, followed by the Sonoma State Seawolves on Saturday night. First tip in each contest is slated for 5:30 p.m. After next weekend, the Toros hit the road for four games in their first CCAA road trip of the season.

HEAD COACH VAN GIRARD
Coach Girard enters his fifteenth season at the helm of the Toros basketball program. In this time, Girard has posted a 185-191 record. He has led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA conference titles (1994-96), and has been named CCAA Coach of the Year five times, including three in a row (1993-1996). Girard has coached one All-American, two All-West Region players, three CCAA MVP's and 29 all-conference players. His first win at the collegiate coaching level came on November 25, 1988, when he led CSUDH to a 82-68 victory against Incarnate Word.

BLUE AIMS HIGH IN WIN OVER GCU
Freshman Tameka Blue (Watsonville, CA) scored a personal-best and game-high 25 points in the Toros 63-45 win over Grand Canyon University last Saturday night. Blue was 7 of 11 from the field, including going 3 of 4 from long range. Blue also connected on all eight of her free throw attempts. 25 is the most points scored by any Toro so far in the 2002-2003 season. Teresa Cooper (Simi Valley, CA) and Adriana Mendez (Santa Ana, CA) are next on the list as each of them dumped in a personal-best 22 points a piece in a game so far this season.

PERKINS GETS IT DONE IN CCAA GAMES
Senior Nakeisha Perkins (Tarzana, CA) knows how important conference play is. The center has scored 40 of her 60 total season points in CCAA games. The center, who is averaging 6.0 ppg in overall action, is posting 8.0 ppg versus conference foes. In fact, Perkins scored a career-best 16 points in CSUDH's 72-62 victory over Cal State LA.

HOME SWEET HOME...FINALLY
After going 0-4 at the Torodome this season. The Toros finally picked up their first home win of the 2002-2003 season in their 63-45 victory over GCU. CSUDH is now 1-4 on their home court. Last season, it took the Toros three tries to pick up their first Torodome win which they finally did with a win over the University of Southern Colorado.

STEALING AWAY VICTORY
Cal State Dominguez Hills is stealing its way victory. The Toros have recorded 125 steals on the season, compared to their opponents who have only posted 72 steals. The Toros posted a season-high and a new school record 25 steals in their 75-55 win over Christian Heritage College. Sophomore guard Octavia Askew (Van Nuys, CA) is leading the charge. Askew has a team-leading 31 steals on the season and has had game-high steals in 7 of 10 Toro games this season.

FRESHMEN PHENOMS
Tameka Blue and Teresa Cooper are playing way beyond their years. In addition to leading the team in scoring, the duo is also leading the team in almost every statistical category. From three point range, Blue and Cooper have made 42 of CSUDH's 50 three point baskets, which is 84% of the Toros offense from beyond the arc. The two have also combined for 273 of the Toros 632 points, accounting for 43% of the team scoring. Blue is leading the team with 13.8 ppg, while Cooper is close behind recording 13.5 ppg. All that separates them is three more points scored by Blue.
