SCOUTING REPORT
SCOUTING CAL STATE BAKERSFIELD Cal State Bakersfield is the top team in the CCAA this season. They are in first place by two games and ranked 11th in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll. They have won their last nine games which is a new school record. Senior forward Heather Garay is leading the team with an impressive 24.4 points per game, while senior Diane Dittburner is adding 17.9 ppg to the 'Runners scoring efforts. In fact, four CSUB players are averaging double-figure scoring on the season. Garay is dominating the glass with 11.9 rebounds per game. She has posted seven consecutive double-doubles on the year. CSUB is unstoppable in the Icardo Center where they average 92.2 ppg. The last time that these teams met was on March 1, 2002 when the Toros posted a 67-61 upset over the 'Runners. This is the fourth meeting between the two schools with CSUB holding a 3-1 edge.
SCOUTING CAL STATE STANISLAUS The Warriors lost back to back contests last week at the hands of UC Davis and Chico State. CSUS is tied for fourth place in the CCAA standings with Cal State LA. Shannon Donnelly is leading the scoring charge for the Warriors. Donnelly is averaging 17.4 ppg, and has scored team-high points in seven of the Warriors 13 games this season. Aprile Powell is scoring 12.5 ppg. Powell is also strong on the glass, recording over 11 boards per game. In fact, the whole squad has been tight on the boards, as the Warriors are outrebounding their opponents 44.3-37.0. This is the 18th meeting between the two teams with the Toros holding a slight 9-8 edge. However, the Warriors have won six of eight contest since 1998. The last time the teams met was in the final game of 2002 when CSUDH surprised the Warriors in a 67-58 win at the Torodome.

TOROS HIT THE ROAD THIS WEEK
After a four-game homestand, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team with hit the road to take on Cal State Bakersfield on Friday night in the first game of a four-tilt road trip. So far this season the Toros have found success playing away from the Torodome as they post a 4-1 road record, compared to their 1-6 home ledger. The Toros only home win this season came in a 63-45 win over Grand Canyon University (1/11/03). After taking on the conference leading Roadrunners (12-1, 7-1 CCAA) on Friday night things will not ease up for the Toros as they head on to Turlock to battle with the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus (6-4, 4-4 CCAA) on Saturday night. First tip in each contest is slated for 5:30 p.m.

HEAD COACH VAN GIRARD
Coach Girard enters his fifteenth season at the helm of the Toros basketball program. In this time, Girard has posted a 185-191 record. He has led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA conference titles (1994-96), and has been named CCAA Coach of the Year five times, including three in a row (1993-1996). Girard has coached one All-American, two All-West Region players, three CCAA MVP's and 29 all-conference players. His first win at the collegiate coaching level came on November 25, 1988, when he led CSUDH to a 82-68 victory against Incarnate Word.

FRESHMEN PHENOMS
Freshman guards Tameka Blue (Watsonville, CA) and Teresa Cooper (Simi Valley, CA) are playing way beyond their years. In addition to leading the team in scoring, the duo is also leading the team in almost every statistical category. From three point range, Blue and Cooper have made 50 of CSUDH's 63 three point baskets, which is 79% of the Toros offense from beyond the arc. The two have also combined for 322 of the Toros 746 points, accounting for 43% of the team scoring. Blue is leading the team with 13.5 ppg, while Cooper is close behind recording 13.2 ppg.

STARTING LINEUP GETS IT DONE
The Toros staring lineup, is the lineup that is wining the games for CSUDH. The usual starters, guard Tameka Blue, guard Teresa Cooper, forward Octavia Askew (Van Nuys, CA), center Nakeisha Perkins (Grant HS) and forward Keesha Aldridge (Aiea, HI) have accounted for 59% of the Toros scoring.

BLUE KNOWS HOW TO DISH IT OUT
Tameka Blue can be called the queen of dish. Blue has dished out a team-leading 58 assists so far on the season, which is over double the total that any other player has put up. She is averaging almost five assists per game.

TOROS ARE TAKING IT AWAY
Opponents who play the Toros are having a hard time hanging onto the ball. CSUDH has recorded 147 steals on the season, compared to their foes who have tallied 86. CSUDH is averaging 12.3 spg. Octavia Askew is leading that charge. She has a team-leading 36 steals on the season which is eight more than any other Toro. This season the Toros broke the school record for steals in a game when they took it away 25 times in a 74-64 win over Cal Baptist University.

TOROS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Each week, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team picks a Player of the Week within their squad. The system rewards players based on other factors besides scoring. Players are awarded one point for each positive statistic posted (i.e. rebounds, steals, assists, etc) and a point is taken away for negative statistics (turnovers). In addition, two bonus points are awarded for each charge taken or "hustle play". The points are tabulated and the total is called the composite score.
