2002-03 Results 2002-03 Roster CCAA Standings
SCOUTING REPORT

SCOUTING UC DAVIS UC Davis is impressive at 10-5 overall and 6-4 in CCAA action. They have won five of their last six games, with their only loss coming at the hands of nationally ranked Cal State Bakersfield. Sarah Allen is dominating the Aggie offense with 19.6 ppg, which is the third highest average in the conference. Jennifer Decuir and Colleen Turnbull are also scoring in double figures, averaging 13.9 and 13.6 ppg respectively. Turnbull is strong on the glass, pulling down 10.7 boards per game. The Aggies are one of the strongest free throw shooting teams in the CCAA, connecting on 74% of their attempts. This is the 22nd meeting between the two squads with the Aggies dominating the series 18-3. The last time that the teams met was on February 1, 2002, when UCD squeaked out a 65-62 win over CSUDH at the Torodome.

SCOUTING CHICO STATE The Wildcats are coming into this upcoming action after splitting last weekend. CSUC lost to UC San Diego on Friday night, but was able to regroup for the 20 point 74-54 win over Grand Canyon University. Michelle Pietka is leading the Wildcat scoring charge with 16 ppg, while Marissa White is adding 15 ppg to the offense. In fact, CSUC has four players averaging double-figure scoring on the season. The Wildcats are impressive from three point range, as they have converted on 106 of 280 attempts (38%), compared to their opponents 66 of 248 (27%). The last time these teams met was on February 2, 2002, when CSUC handed CSUDH a 49-67 loss in the Torodome. TOROS LOOK TO STOP SLIDE THIS WEEKEND
The Toros will look to stop a four-game losing streak this weekend, as they travel north for the UC Davis/Chico State series. After being swept the last two weekends in a row, the Toros will hope to rebound versus the Aggies and Wildcats. Unlike most teams, CSUDH plays a little better on the road. CSUDH is only 1-6 on their homecourt in the Torodome, but they are 4-3 on the visitors turf. The Toros will face a tough challenge however as both the Aggies and the Wildcats sit in the upper half of the CCAA standings, and are both on winning streaks.

TOROS TOUGH FROM THREE POINT LAND
Although the Toros are struggling to get wins on the season, they are tough to beat from three-point range. CSUDH is currently fourth in the CCAA in field goal percentage at 33%. They also have two players, Tameka Blue (Watsonville, CA) and Teresa Cooper (Simi Valley, CA) in the top ten charts for field goals made. Blue is tenth averaging 1.5 three-pointers per game, while Cooper is third in the conference, connecting on 2.36 3PTFG per game. Cooper, a freshman guard, has made a team-leading 33 baskets from long range to lead the squad so far on the season.

NOT MANY DISH BETTER THAN BLUE
It is not often that a freshman is able to make as much of an impact as Tameka Blue has. Not only is Blue leading the team in scoring with 13.6 ppg, she is also one of the best play makers on the team. Blue has a team-leading 63 assists on the season, which is almost triple the total of all the Toros combined. She has posted the most assists in nine tilts this season. Blue is also one of the best in the conference as she is dishing out 4.5 assists per game.

PERKINS CLOSE TO CENTURY MARK
Although it may be easy to get to the century mark in scoring, it is a little bit more difficult to get 100+ rebounds. Senior Nakeisha Perkins (Tarzana, CA) is almost there. She has pulled down 96 rebounds so far on the season to lead the team with 6.9 boards per game. Of all the players in the CCAA, only 11 have reached the century mark so far. And by bringing down almost seven boards a game, look for it to happen this weekend.

TOROS ARE TAKING IT AWAY
Opponents who play the Toros are having a hard time hanging onto the ball. CSUDH has recorded 167 steals on the season, compared to their foes who have tallied 107. CSUDH is averaging 11.9 spg, which is the second highest in the CCAA, only behind CCAA leader Cal State Bakersfield. And in that dual this past weekend, CSUB over CSUDH 14-11.

STARTING LINEUP GETS IT DONE
The Toros staring lineup, is the lineup that is wining the games for CSUDH. The usual starters, guard Tameka Blue, guard Teresa Cooper, forward Octavia Askew (Van Nuys, CA), center Nakeisha Perkins and forward Keesha Aldridge (Aiea, HI) have accounted for 59% of the Toros scoring.

HEAD COACH VAN GIRARD
Coach Girard enters his fifteenth season at the helm of the Toros basketball program. In this time, Girard has posted a 185-191 record. He has led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA conference titles (1994-96), and has been named CCAA Coach of the Year five times, including three in a row (1993-1996). Girard has coached one All-American, two All-West Region players, three CCAA MVP's and 29 all-conference players. His first win at the collegiate coaching level came on November 25, 1988, when he led CSUDH to a 82-68 victory against Incarnate Word.
