DAVIS, Calif. --Colleen Turnbull registered her
eighth double-double of the season and the Aggies used a 26-9 run
midway through the second half to blow open a close game as UC
Davis defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 81-66, in a California
Collegiate Athletic Association women's game in front of 1,013 at
Recreation Hall Friday evening.
With the victory the Aggies improve to 11-5 on
the season, 7-4 in CCAA play. The Toros fall to 5-10 overall, 3-8
in conference action.
It was a lackluster first half for the Aggies
as they struggled to find the mark. After falling behind 9-2 in
the opening five minutes, UC Davis went on a 9-0 run to take a
two-point lead at 11-9. Sarah Allen led the way as she scored six
points in the run as UC Davis grabbed its last lead of the half.
It would be a half of runs as both teams scored
in spurts. The Toros built their biggest lead of the half
following a Octavia Askew jumper at the 7:19 mark, giving CSUDH a
26-16 lead. UC Davis would answer over the next 6:17 as they
outscored the Toros 14-2, tying the game at 30-30 with just over
one minute remaining in the half. Nakeisha Perkins hit a jumper
with :34 left to give CSUDH a 32-30 lead entering halftime.
UC Davis struggled in the first half, shooting
just 26 percent from the field and 63 percent from the line. They
stayed close as a result of 16 first-half turnovers from CSUDH
that resulted in 14 Aggie points.
The second half saw the Aggies jump out early,
going on 12-2 run to open the half. Jennifer Decuir scored eight
consecutive points, the final coming on a three-pointer as UC
Davis stretched its lead to eight at 42-34. The lead would grow to
as much as 22 late in the game, although the lead would hover
around the 15-point mark for much of the final 10 minutes. UC
Davis shot 62 percent from the field in the second half as it
broke the 50-point barrier in a half for the second straight game.
It was a team effort for UC Davis in the second
20 minutes as Allen and Decuir each scored 10 points, while
Turnbull added eight and Amanda Mansfield and Desiree
Evans-Claassen each added six.
Turnbull ended her night with 18 points and 16
rebounds, while Allen finished with a game-high 19 points, 13
coming from the free throw line. Decuir added 15 points and five
steals for the Aggies, who won for the seventh time in their last
eight games.

while freshman Tameka Blue finished with nine points, four
