SCOUTING REPORT

SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO Cal State San Bernardino went 1-1 over last weeks play with a win over Cal State Stanislaus, followed by a loss to Cal State Bakersfield. The Coyotes are 11-6 overall and 7-5 in CCAA action. Kamesha Bell is leading CSUSB's scoring charge, averaging 15.1 ppg, while Leilani Tirona is adding almost ten ppg to the Coyotes efforts. Bell is also dominating the glass, as she has pulled down 154 rebounds to average 9.1 rpg. As a team, the Coyotes are outrebounding their opponents, 42.1-36.5. The last time that these two teams met was on January 4, 2003, when a last second basket by Toro Keesha Aldridge secured the 44-43 victory for CSUDH. This is the 28th meeting between the two teams with the Toros holding a 16-11 series lead.

SCOUTING CAL POLY POMONA The Broncos suffered two straight losses last weekend, including a 90-92 overtime loss to Cal State Bakersfield. CPP is 7-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Broncos have four players averaging double-figure scoring per game, with Alicia Hernandez leading the way with 15 ppg. Marissa Lattin is not far behind with 14 ppg. Three Broncos are recording over five rebounds per game with Hernandez and Lattin pulling down almost six apiece. TOROS LOOK FOR WIN AS THEY RETURN HOME TO THE TORODOME
The Toros will look to stop a six-game skid as they host Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona this weekend. CSUDH has not had that much luck at home however, as they are 1-6 in the Torodome. The Toros last win was a 63-45 victory over Grand Canyon University in the Torodome. Odds could be in favor of the Toros on Friday though, as CSUDH beat CSUSB on the road earlier in the season. The Coyotes are first on the Toros slate this weekend with first tip slated for 5:30 p.m.. Saturday night will feature the Toros facing off with the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona.

TURNER TURNS IT ON
Junior Delaney Turner (Fremont, CA) stepped up her game in the Toros loss to Chico State on Saturday night. Turner scored ten points, which was the second most scoring for the Toros that night. Turner scored a season-best 11 points in CSUDH's loss to CSLA. So far this season, she is averaging 2.8 ppg and 2.8 rpg.

NOT MANY DISH BETTER THAN BLUE
It is not often that a freshman is able to make as much of an impact as Tameka Blue (Watsonville, CA) has. Not only is Blue leading the team in scoring with 13.4 ppg, she is also one of the best play makers on the team. Blue has a team-leading 70 assists on the season, which is almost triple the total of all the Toros combined. She has posted the most assists in ten tilts this season. Blue is also one of the best in the conference as she is dishing out 4.38 assists per game, which places her sixth in CCAA statistics.

PERKINS REACHES CENTURY MARK
Although it may be easy to get to the century mark in scoring, it is a little bit more difficult to get 100+ rebounds. Senior Nakeisha Perkins (Tarzana, CA) is there. She has pulled down 108 rebounds so far on the season to lead the team with 6.8 boards per game. Of all the players in the CCAA, only 12 have reached the century mark so far. And by bringing down almost seven boards a game, and with ten games remaining, look for her to blast right past this marker.

TOROS ARE TAKING IT AWAY
Opponents who play the Toros are having a hard time hanging onto the ball. CSUDH has recorded 183 steals on the season, compared to their foes who have tallied 133. CSUDH is averaging 11.4 spg, which is the third highest in the CCAA, only behind CCAA leader Cal State Bakersfield and UC Davis.

FRESHMAN SCORING
Two Toro freshmen phenoms Teresa Cooper (Simi Valley, CA) and Tameka Blue are leading the team in scoring. In fact, they are the only players to be averaging double-figures on the season. Together they have combined for 25.5 ppg, which is 42% of the average team scoring of 63.1 ppg.

HEAD COACH VAN GIRARD
Coach Girard enters his fifteenth season at the helm of the Toros basketball program. In this time, Girard has posted a 185-191 record. He has led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA conference titles (1994-96), and has been named CCAA Coach of the Year five times, including three in a row (1993-1996). Girard has coached one All-American, two All-West Region players, three CCAA MVP's and 29 all-conference players. His first win at the collegiate coaching level came on November 25, 1988, when he led CSUDH to a 82-68 victory against Incarnate Word.
