CARSON, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills opened up its new ballpark in impressive fashion with a 12-1 rout over Concordia University Wednesday in non-conference action at the new Toro Field.

1B Tony Marquez (Roseville, CA) and DH Frank Perez (Banning HS) led the 15-hit attack with three hits each.

Marquez provided the fireworks early with the first home run ever at the new yard, a 3-run blast to left field, to highlight a four-run first inning. Perez connected for his first home run of the year in the third inning, a 2-run shot, to give CSUDH a 6-0 lead.

The Toros added a run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead. In the fifth, Zac Cort (El Cerrito, CA) knocked in a run with a pinch-hit single and C Efren Esparza (Dominguez HS) plated a run on a fielder's choice.

Concordia (2-4) finally got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning when SS Nick Scannavino scored from third base on a wild pitch. CSUDH (2-0) answered in the bottom of the eighth with three runs, aided by Concordia's fifth error of the game. 2B David Keesee (Saugus, CA) had a run-scoring groundout and 3B Ruben Salazar (St. John Bosco HS) provided a RBI double to account for the final 12-1 margin.

Toros starting pitcher Rick Moore (1-0) was impressive in his first start of the season. Moore pitched the first six shutout-innings, allowing only three hits while striking out three Eagle batters. Freshman left-handed pitcher Ryan Owen (W. Torrance HS) was solid in his first collegiate appearance. Owen pitched the seventh and eight innings, allowing one run on four hits.
