No. 23 Cal State, San Bernardino Defeats Toros Men, 74-58
First-place Coyotes use second-half surge to win 14th straight

CARSON, Calif.-Cal State San Bernardino got a game-high 22 points from Bobby Burries to lead the Coyotes to a 74-58 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday night in the Torodome.

CSUSB extends its winning streak to fourteen games and is now 14-4 and 12-1 in CCAA play. CSUDH drops to 5-13 and 3-10 in league action.

The Toros found themselves down 34-30 at the half after a Justin Goree (Fairfield, CA) desperation shot at the buzzer found its way through the net from nearly two-thirds the length of the court.

The Coyotes came out in the second period and built its lead to 12 points, 50-38, after an offensive rebound and put-back by Dumas Martin with 13:31 remaining. But the Toros chipped away going on a 10-2 run over the next 3:33 to cut the lead down to four points, 52-48, with 9:58 left.

Cal State San Bernardino then stepped up the defensive pressure and held CSUDH to seven points over the next 8:14 while outscoring the Toros by 22 points to take a 19-point lead, 74-55, with just under two minutes to play. The Toros Abel Velarde (Bell HS) hit a three-point shot to account for the final margin, 74-58.

Burries led a foursome in double-figures. Lance Ray and Dumas Martin poured in 17 points and Jonathan Levy added 10. Martin grabbed a game-high 12 boards.

For Cal State Dominguez Hills, Michael Crawford (Simi Valley HS) led the team with a season-high 21 points and five rebounds. Andre Brown (San Jose, CA) followed with 13 points.

CSUDH is back in conference action tomorrow night hosting Cal Poly Pomona. First tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
