Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.- Cal State Dominguez Hills stopped a six-game losing streak tonight as the Toros posted a 56-48 victory over the visiting Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino in a CCAA contest in the Torodome. The win marks a CSUDH two-game series sweep of CSUSB this season.

CSUDH improves to 6-11 overall and 4-9 in CCAA action, while CSUSB falls to 11-7 overall and 7-6 in conference play.

Freshman guard Tameka Blue (Watsonville HS) led all scorers with 12 points and was the only Toro to score in double-figures tonight. Blue has posted double-figures in 14 of the Toros 17 games this season. Freshman Teresa Cooper (Simi Valley HS) added to Blue's efforts scoring nine points on the night for CSUDH.

The Toros were impressive in the first half, leading by as many as 14 at two points in the first set of twenty. CSUDH used consistent shooting from the field (44%) , strong rebounding (23) and solid defense to give themselves the advantage. The Toros held the Coyotes scoreless for nearly four minutes, as they went on a 9-0 run. CSUDH would go into the half with an 11-point lead as they held the top scorers for CSUSB to only four points apiece.

A very determined Coyote squad came into the second half, putting together a 13-5 run to cut the Toro lead to three six minutes into second half play. But that is as close as CSUSB would get. The Toros were able to tighten up their defense and more importantly connect on five of six free throws within the minute mark to hold on for the 56-48 lead.

Kamesha Bell picked up a double-double on the night for the Coyotes as she dumped in 10 points while bringing down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Toros return to action on Saturday night when they host Cal Poly Pomona for a 5:30 tipoff.
