CARSON, Calif.--Visiting Vanguard University dealt the Cal State Dominguez Hills baseball team its first loss on the new Toro Field, 10-0, in non-conference action Monday, highlighted by a two home run, 5-RBI performance from VU's Matt Tisthammer.

With the win, Vanguard improves to 6-2 on the season while the loss drops the Toros to 3-2.

The Lions roughed up Toro starter Chris Ingstad (Lakewood HS) in his first start of the season. VU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first on a 3-run home run from pitcher Joe Carnahan.

In the second with one out, Ingstad gave up three consecutive singles before Tisthammer hit the first grand slam ever at Toro Field. Tisthammer's shot was a long blast over the left field fence giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.

Freshman LHP Ryan Owen (W. Torrance HS) came on in the third and allowed an unearned run on an RBI double from C Jonathan Bower scoring Justin Millward who had reached earlier on an error.

Tisthammer then hit his second homer of the game, a one-out solo shot deep to left field, to make it 9-0. Vanguard scored its final run of the game in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Millward plating Jason Searle who reached on a double earlier in the inning.

Carnahan (1-0) kept the Toro bats in check all game to earn his first win of the year. The left-handed pitcher tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout, walking four batters while striking out five.

Tisthammer finished the day going 3-5 at the plate with five RBI and three runs scored. Carnahan finished with three RBI while CF Scott Zine and 2B Robert Cruz each had two hits on the day.

For the Toros, Ingstad (0-1) suffered the loss going only two innings, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits. Owen went three innings in relief allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three. RHP Larry Robles (Mary Star of the Sea HS) was impressive in relief striking out four Vanguard batters in two innings of relief.
