SAN BERNARDINO -- Senior righthander Charles Rohr retired the first 16 batters he faced as Cal State San Bernardino defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills, 7-3, in the first game of a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader Friday at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.

The Toros took an early 4-0 lead in the nightcap and held off the Coyotes to gain a split with a 6-5 victory.

The two teams wrap up the initial four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at the Toros new baseball stadium in Carson. First pitch is at noon. CSUSB is 6-1 while CSUDH is now 4-3.

In game one, Rohr was flawless over the first five innings, striking out four and not walking a batter in facing the minimum 15 batters. After one out in the sixth, the Toros finally broke through with two singles but Rohr got out of the inning on two flyouts.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes built a 7-0 lead over the first seven innings.

Ray Cano came on to pitch the final two innings for the Coyotes, giving up a two-run homer to the Toros' Joe Gevas in the top of the eighth and an RBI double to Don Bracken in the ninth.

The Coyotes went ahead 2-0 in the first on singles by Keith Haughn, Josh Thomas and Chris DiBlasi sandwiched around a walk to Chris McAllen and a double by Brian Schweiger. CSUSB made it 3-0 in the second on Jake Puckett's single, a fielding error and a fielder's choice.

The Coyotes added two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh.

In the nightcap, the Coyotes came back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at 5-5 in the sixth, but Gevas belted a solo homer in the top of the seventh for the game-winner. The blow came off Coyote reliever Danny Lambaren.

Brian Cortes came on to retire the Coyotes in order for the save.
