UC San Diego defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills
in California Collegiate Athletic Association mens
basketball action at UCSDs RIMAC Arena on Saturday night,
71-59, giving head coach Greg Lanthier his 100th win in charge of
the Tritons.
UCSD led the entire first half, building an
11-2 bulge before a late 9-0 run by the Toros put the score at
30-28 in favor of the home side at halftime.
The Tritons were ahead for almost the entire
second half as well. Cal State Dominguez Hills briefly held
one-point leads on two occasions early in the period after tying
the game at 30-30 to open the half on a basket by senior Michael
Crawford. UCSD regained the advantage with just over 16 minutes to
play, at 37-36, on a lay-up by junior C.J. Duffaut, and never
looked back.
Duffaut finished with a team-high 12 points,
pacing five Tritons in double figures. Juniors Ryan Rikansrud and
Sean Crawford, sophomore Jordan Watkins and freshman Matthew
Sweany all had 11 points.
Junior Andre Brown scored a game-high 15
points for Cal State Dominguez Hills while fellow third-year
player Abel Velarde posted a double-double with 11 points and a
game-high 11 rebounds. Crawford had 14 points off the bench.
With the win, UCSD snaps a nine-game losing
streak and improves its record to 5-16 overall, 4-12 in the CCAA.
Cal State Dominguez Hills drops to 6-15 overall, an identical 4-12
in league play.
CSUDH hits the road again next weekend with
stops at Sonoma State Friday night and San Francisco State
Saturday night. |
