BAKERSFIELD, CALIF. Cal State Dominguez
Hills has its golf team entered at the Family Motors Invitational,
but the host Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners are making it
difficult for visitors. After 36 holes at Seven Oaks Country Club
in Bakersfield the Coyotes are in 16th place. The Roadrunners lead
at 16-under 560, but just three shots separate the top four teams
heading into Tuesdays climatic 18 holes.
CSUB holds a one-stroke lead over No. 10 Chico
State. Western Washington, ranked No. 21, is three shots off the
pace as is NCAA Division I member Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Individually, Western Washingtons Tim
Feenstra is on pace to break the tournament record as well. He
enters Tuesdays final round at eight-under 136, one shot
better than Travis Bertoni and Aaron Dexheimer of Cal Poly. The
tournament record for 54 holes is 209 (-9) set by then CSUB
freshman Kevin Klebe (Chilliwack, BC) in 2000.
The Toros leading scorer after the first two
rounds is Jan Wong (75-76: 151) who is tied for 27th among D-II
teams.
The Family Motors Invitational concludes with
18 holes Tuesday.
