CSUS Record: 15-10 - 10-8 CCAA
(6th)
Series Record: The Toros lead the
all-time series 9-5...CSUDH dropped its game to the Warriors
earlier this seaon in Turlock, CA on Jan. 25, 63-76...in that
game, CSUDH's Andre' Brown recorded a double-double with 20
points and 10 rebounds...last year the Toros and Warriors
split its two-game series with Stanislaus winning at home
(83-78) and the Toros winning in Carson, 82-63.
Warrior Notes: Stanislaus is coming
off a split this past weekend losing at Chico State (82-92)
then winning at UC Davis (73-71)...the Warriors have won four
of its past six games...CSUS has a 10-3 record at home but has
struggled on the road with a 5-7 record...senior guard Jeff
Davenport paces four players averaging in double-figures with
14.2 ppg...Bernard McIntosh, who leads the team on the boards
with 8.6 rpg, follows pouring in 13.8 ppg...as a team, the
Warriors are making .456 of their shots and are outrebounding
opponents, 35-32. |

CSUB Record: 17-6 - 12-6 CCAA (4th)
Series Record: Bakersfield holds a
44-12 series record over the Toros...CSUDH has not won a game
over the Roadrunners since the 1993-94 season, a 65-63 victory
in Carson, a span of 17 consecutive games...the Toros dropped
a 60-44 decision earlier this year in Bakersfield.
Roadrunner Notes: CSUB had its
five-game winning streak snapped with a 60-65 loss at Chico
State last Saturday...the 'Runners are led by Fred Nichols and
Terri Miller who are averaging 12.6 and 12.4 points a game
respectively...Miller leads the squad on the glass grabbing
8.7 rpg which ranks him second in the CCAA...as a team,
Bakersfield leads the league in field goal pct. making .479 of
its shots from the floor...CSUB is outrebounding the
opposition 38-29 on avg. |

QUICK RECAP:
The Toros are now 6-17 overall and in 11th-place with a 4-14
CCAA record. CSUDH lost its third and fourth game in a row with a
heartbreaking 66-69 road loss at the buzzer to Sonoma State last
Friday, followed by a 67-87 defeat at San Francisco St. on
Saturday.
TOROS LOSE HEARTBREAKER TO SONOMA STATE AT
BUZZER:
Sonoma State his a three-pointer as time expired to give the
host Seawolves an exciting 69-66 win over Cal State Dominguez
Hills on Friday night at Seawolf Gym. CSUDH tied the game up with
a three-pointer by Justin Goree (Fairfield, CA) with just :11
remaining, giving the Toros a shot at upsetting the #4 ranked team
in the region. Freshman guard Chris Getty then took the ball and
drove the length of the court, heaving up a shot from five feet
beyond the arc, only his second field goal of the night. The ball
found nothing but net. The Seawolves (15-7, 12-5 CCAA) led by as
many as 13 points in the second half before the Toros began
chipping away with about nine minutes remaining. Cal State
Dominguez Hills took the lead on another three by Goree with 2:04
remaining before the Seawolves responded on both ends of the
court. SSU came up with two big blocks within a span of twenty
seconds and the Seawolves made all four of their free-throw
attempts in the final minute. Michael Crawford (Simi Valley HS)
led the Toros with 19 points and eight rebounds. Goree chipped in
with 14 points while Andre' Brown (San Jose, CA) came off the
bench to add 11 points. Abel Velarde (Bell HS) was also in
double-figures offensively with 10 points.
GATORS TAKE A BITE OUT OF TOROS:
San Francisco State (10-13, 8-10 CCAA) used a huge second half
to beat Cal State Dominguez Hills, 87-67. The Gators earned the
sweep of the two-game series as they beat the Toros, 75-62, in
Carson on Jan. 17. In the first half, both teams had leads of at
least seven points. The half ended with the Gators up 36-34. In
the second half, the Toros opened with five straight points to
take a 39-36 lead after 48 seconds. A three-pointer by SFSU tied
the game at 39-39 at the 18:50 mark. Over the next 11 minutes, the
Gators outscored the Toros, 31-6 to put the game out of reach. For
Cal State Dominguez Hills, Michael Crawford had 17 points and
Justin Goree scored 10. Malik Harris (Oakland, CA) led CSUDH on
the boards with a career-high 10 rebounds.

HARRIS GRABS AND SCORES CAREER-HIGH:
Malik Harris grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against San
Francisco State on Saturday while also pouring in a CSUDH
career-high eight points. The junior guard from Oakland, CA
finished 4-of-6 from the field to go along with two assists on the
night.
CRAWFORD NO PHANTOM LAST WEEKEND:
Forward Michael Crawford had a solid weekend leading the team
in scoring both nights. The 6-5 player from Simi Valley HS scored
a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds in the Toros loss at
Sonoma State. He then followed that up on Saturday with 17 points
and seven rebounds at San Francisco State. The back-to-back
double-figure weekend made it 10 games that the senior has
registered double-digits in a game.
GOREE SCORES IN DOUBLE-FIGURES...AGAIN:
Senior guard Justin Goree leads the team in scoring averaging
11.9 points per game. Goree has scored in double-figures in a
team-best 15 of the Toros 23 games this year, including six of the
teams last eight contests.
MEILLEUR ADDS TO BLOCK TOTAL:
Freshman Ryan Meilleur (Artesia HS) recorded three more blocks
over the weekend to bring his season total to 24. The 6-foot-8
center will have to turn it on over the final four games to break
the all-time mark of 37 set back in 1988-89 by Anthony Blackmon.
Meilleur ranks fifth in the CCAA averaging 1.04 blocks per game.
TOROS CONTINUE TO OUTREBOUND:
Despite dropping both games last weekend, the Toros
outrebounded both San Francisco State (37-32) and Sonoma 32-24).
The Toros are outrebounding the opposition 35-31 on average
ranking them fifth in the CCAA. In conference games, only Cal
State Bakersfield (+6.7) has a higher rebounding margin that the
Toros (+4.3).
GOREE REMAINS HOT FROM LONG-RANGE:
One thing has been a certainty all season long and that is
Justin Goree's blazing-hot streak beyond the 3-point arc. Goree is
now shooting .425 from long-range which ranks him third overall in
the CCAA. Only Michael Schnyder and Billy Speer of CS Bakersfield
rank ahead of the 6-4 senior guard from Fairfield, CA.
