TOROS CLOSE OUT SEASON WITH A FOUR-GAME
HOMESTAND
After a very successful last road trip of the season in which the
Toros went 2-0 on the weekend for the first time this year, CSUDH
will close out the 2002-2003 season with a four-game homestand.
CSUDH has had better luck on the road this season, as they post a
winning record of 7-6. They have some ground to make up at home
however, as they have won only one two contests in the Torodome.
First up for the Toros on Friday night are the Warriors (16-7,
13-5) of Cal State Stanislaus, followed by the nationally ranked
Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners (22-1, 17-1 CCAA) on Saturday.
First tip in each contest in slated for 5:30 p.m.
TWO IN A ROW...
The Toros are on a roll... CSUDH has won back-to-back games, the
first time that this has occurred all season. The Toros upset the
Seawolves of Sonoma State, 60-52 on Friday night followed up by a
55-51 victory over San Francisco State on Saturday night.
WATCH OUT FOR BLUE
Opponents, watch out for Toro freshman Tameka Blue (Watsonville,
CA). Blue has been on fire in the Toros last four games, three of
which have been wins. Blue has scored a total of 57 points in
CSUDH's last four outings, averaging 14 ppg. So far this season,
Blue is leading the team in scoring with 14.3 ppg. Her season-high
was a 27 point performance in the Toros victory over Grand Canyon
University.
PERKINS IS BIG ON THE BOARDS
Nakeisha Perkins (Tarzana, CA) has been one of the top rebounders
throughout her career, and in her final season of collegiate
basketball, she is going to go out with a bang. So far, she is
leading the team with 7.3 rpg. She has brought down or tied
game-high rebounds in 15 of the Toros 22 games this season. She is
a little better in CCAA contests as she is bringing down 7.9 rpg
versus conference opponents.
BEST FRESHMEN IN CSUDH HISTORY?
Blue doesn't need to continue the hot scoring streak that she is
on. She is already the top scoring freshman in CSUDH history. Blue
is averaging 14.3 ppg, which is the highest all-time freshmen
scoring average. She also scored 27 points in a game, which is one
of the highest single-game scoring by a freshman.
A LITTLE BETTER ON THE ROAD
Most teams count on the "homecourt advantage". Not the
Toros, however. CSUDH likes it better on the road, as they post a
7-6 away ledger, compared to a 2-5 home record. The Toros last two
wins were road wins, and their last home win came on February 7 in
a 56-48 win over CS San Bernardino.
BLUE REACHES CENTURY MARK IN ASSISTS
With her ten assists over the weekend, Tameka Blue has reached the
century mark in assists. She is leading the team with 102 assists,
and is averaging 4.7 dishes per game. Blue is currently fifth in
the CCAA statistics in assists.
TOROS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Each week, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball team
picks a Player of the Week within their squad. The system rewards
players based on other factors besides scoring. Players are
awarded one point for each positive statistic posted (i.e.
rebounds, steals, assists, etc) and a point is taken away for
negative statistics (turnovers). In addition, two bonus points are
awarded for each charge taken or "hustle play". The
points are tabulated and the total is called the composite score.

Toros basketball program. In this time, Girard has posted a
185-191 record. He has led CSUDH to two consecutive CCAA
conference titles (1994-96), and has been named CCAA Coach of the
Year five times, including three in a row (1993-1996). Girard has
