CARSON, Calif.- Cal State Dominguez Hills
pulled off a 72-56 upset of the second place Warriors of Cal State
Stanislaus tonight in a CCAA contest at the Torodome. The Toros,
having won their third straight, improve their season ledger to
9-14 overall and 8-11 in CCAA action, while snapping a seven-game
win streak by CSUS and dropping the Warriors to 16-8 overall and
13-5 in CCAA play.
Freshman sensation Tameka Blue scored a
game-high and season-high 33 points in the win. She connected on 9
of 20 from the field, including making three from deep. She was
almost perfect at the charity stripe as she converted on 12 of 14
attempts. After a 14 point performance in the first half, she came
back with 19 in the second, ten of those coming from the line.
The Toros would lead from the first tip and
never would give up that lead, extending it to as much as 16 into
opening play of the second half. CSUS tied the game up once, and
would get to within one, but that was at the 4:40 mark in the
first half, and after that they spent their time attempting to
play catch up.
CSUDH was steady from the field at 44%.
Besides Blue, Nakeisha Perkins and Octavia
Askew would turn in solid double-figure performances. Perkins
finished the night with 14 and nine rebounds, while Askew dumped
in 12.
The Toros will look to continue this momentum
as they host first place Cal State Bakersfield tomorrow night.
