Complete Box Score

CARSON, Calif.-Daveris Hester broke the all-time Chico State scoring record pouring in 42 points in the Wildcats 97-92 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over Cal State Dominguez Hills in the Torodome Friday night.

Chico State is now 17-9 and 14-7 in CCAA play. CSUDH drops its seventh-straight and is now 6-20 overall and 4-17 in league action.

The Wildcats were without its top scorer with Scott Land sitting out with a sprained ankle suffered earlier this week in practice. But that didn't matter much as Hester scored Chico's first 14 points of the game going 4-for-4 from behind the three-point line.

Up by four points, 21-17, midway through the first half, Chico went on a 22-2 run to take control with a 43-19 lead with 5:34 left in the half. The Wildcats would build its margin to as many as 29 points before going into the break with a 56-31 lead behind 28 first-half Hester points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field including 6-for-7 from the three-point line. Chico State shot a blazing 69% from the floor on 20-of-29 shooting including 8-for-11 from long-range.

In the second half, the Toros were never able to get any closer than 24 points as Chico stayed hot from the field shooting 52% in the second half alone.

Hester's record-breaking shot came with 4:22 left in the game on a jumper inside the paint to give Chico a 90-63 lead.

Hester finished the night shooting 15-for-21 from the field including a 7-for-11 performance behind the three-point line. Jason Van Eck and Andy Butcher each contributed with 11 points. Butcher and Ben Perak grabbed a team-high six boards.

Senior forward Andre' Brown (San Jose, CA) led the Toros with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior Michael Crawford (Simi Valley HS) and freshman guard Saul Lankster (Compton Centennial HS) came off the bench to chip in with 15 and 12 points each.

The Toros will close out its season tomorrow night hosting UC Davis. Game time is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
