triple in the bottom of the ninth |
CARSON, Calif.--Ricky Eda hit a run-scoring
triple in the bottom of the ninth to help the Toros salvage a 9-9
tie in exhibition baseball action against Keio University (JPN)
today at Toro Field.
Down 7-3 going into the bottom of the sixth
inning, the Toros pushed across five runs to take an 8-7 lead.
That inning was highlighted by a leadoff home run by LF Mike Roux
and a triple from RF Zak Cort. Cort, who was cleared today to play
after sitting out the past two weeks due to a groin injury, hit a
deep home run over the center field fence in the second inning.
Keio took the lead in the top of the eighth
with two runs before the Toros tied the game in the bottom of the
ninth. Pinch-hitter Joe Gevas had a chance to win the game with
two outs and Eda on third, but the senior struck out to end the
game. The exhibition was then called due to darkness.
CSUDH threw an army of pitchers to the mound
with six hurlers seeing action. Freshman LHP's Fred Medina and
Chris Abbott were impressive. Medina tossed two hitless innings
while Abbott went the ninth allowing one hit. Toro DH/1B Frank
Perez made his debut on the mound today allowing both unearned
runs in the eighth after two Toro errors.
Top hitters for the Toros today were CF Andrew
Rodriguez (3-3, 2 doubles), Jarred Lewis (2-2, 1 double) and Ricky
Eda (2-4, single, triple and 2 stolen bases).
Cal State Dominguez Hills is back in CCAA
action this week beginning a four-game series against UC San Diego
on Thursday. First pitch is 2:30 PM.
