2002-03 Results 2002-03 Roster CCAA Standings
SCOUTING REPORT
AGAINST THE COUGARS: CSUDH leads the all-time series, 15-5. The last time the Cougars and Toros met was during the 2000 season with APU winning at home, 10-7, and CSUDH winning in Carson, 5-3. Azusa, who has a doubleheader scheduled against Concordia University (CA) on Monday, enters the week with a 9-10 record. 3B Robert Guiles leads an offense that is hitting at a .325 clip with a .424 average at the plate. SS Robbie Lindsey is hitting .373 while C Jake Haaker is right behind at .371. The Cougars like the long ball hitting 23 homers already on the season. On the mound, RHP Chad Clark (0-1) leads the regular starters with a 5.40 ERA. LHP Josh Breckley (1-0) leads the team out of the pen with a 2.70 ERA.
AGAINST CAL STATE STANISLAUS: CSUDH leads the all-time series, 27-16. Last year, the Toros won 3-of-4 against the Warriors. Stanislaus enters the week with a 10-16-1 overall record and is in sixth place in the CCAA with a 6-10 mark. CSUS dropped three of four games against first-place Sonoma State last weekend. OF Cody Crossman leads the team with a .416 batting average, 24 RBI and 16 stolen bases. INF Hector Alaniz follows hitting .382 while 3B Jeff Crabtree is next at .302. As a team, Stanislaus is batting .277 and has stolen 40-of-52 bases. On the mound, Robert Mansfield (1-1) leads the staff out of the pen with a 2.45 ERA in 10 appearances spanning 14.2 innings. Scott Geissler (4-3) leads the starters with a 2.77 ERA in seven starts in a staff-high 52 innings.

WHAT'S ON TAP:
The Toros (12-13, 8-11 CCAA) host a non-conference game on Tuesday against NAIA Azusa Pacific University before travelling to Northern California for a four-game CCAA series against Cal State Stanislaus.

QUICK RECAP:
UC San Diego defeated the Toros three times last week winning both games in Carson, 8-7, 8-4) then taking the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 13-9, in La Jolla. The second game of the weekend twinbill was postponed due to rain with the Toros leading in the top of the second inning, 2-0. That game will resume on March 25 in La Jolla beginning at 3 PM.

GEVAS TIES CAREER-HIGH:
Senior outfielder Joe Gevas (Vallejo, CA/St. Patrick's HS) tied a career-high in home runs with his eighth bomb of the season on Saturday against UC San Diego. Last year, Gevas hit eight homers on the year en route to earning First Team All-CCAA honors. Gevas now has 22 career home runs in 178 career games in a Toro uniform.

KEESEE KEEPS IT GOING:
In last week's series against UC San Diego, senior 2B David Keesee scored a team-best six runs and tied for the team lead with four RBI on five hits including a home run while hitting .385 on the week (5-for-13). Keesee had a team-high .769 slugging percentage and was perfect in the field defensively. On the season, Keesee has started in all 24 games played and is third on the roster with three home runs. He is one RBI shy from last season's high of 19 RBI.

MILSTEAD MAKING THE GRADE:
Senior center fielder Mike Milstead (Murrieta. CA/Murrieta Valley HS) is making the most of his final season in a Toro uniform. In 20 games, Milstead is hitting .333 and leads the team with eight stolen bases in 10 attempts. Last week in three games against UC San Diego, Milstead hit .571 with a team-best eight hits in 14 at-bats. He also led the team with a .786 slugging percentage, 11 total bases and a .571 on-base percentage.

JOLTIN' JOE:
Senior outfielder Joe Gevas (Vallejo, CA/St. Patrick HS) has registered 12 multiple-hit games on the year including four games with three hits. Gevas leads the team with nine home runs on the year, which is a career-high. He is on pace to break the all-time mark for home runs in a season of 15 set by Ed Packard in 1978. Gevas leads the team in average (.366), RBI (30), total bases (74), slugging percentage (.733) and runs scored (23).

KEESEE HAS MARCH MADNESS:
Senior second baseman David Keesee (Saugus, CA) is working on a nine-game hitting streak dating back to March 1 at Grand Canyon. Keesee has driven in at least one run in each game during that streak including tying a season-high mark of three RBI against Azusa Pacific on Tuesday. In March, Keesee is hitting .419 with 14 RBI and 11 runs scored.

MEDINA OUT IN LEFT FIELD:
Freshman left-handed pitcher Fred Medina (Santa Ana, CA/Century HS), who has put up solid numbers in his first season of collegiate ball, was a surprise starter in left field last Saturday at UC San Diego. Medina was up to the task at the plate getting two hits, including a double, in five trips while also scoring two runs. On the mound, Medina is 1-0 and has yet to give up a run in four relief appearances on the mound.

SALAZAR ON FIRE:
Sophomore third baseman Ruben Salazar (Lynwood, CA/St. John Bosco HS) has been on fire offensively all season. After beginning the year with a 15-game hitting streak, Salazar is now on another streak hitting in the last seven games. In 25 starts, he has gone hitless in only two games. On Tuesday against Azusa Pacific, Salazar had a career-high five hits in five trips to the plate with two doubles and three singles. He now leads the team with a .371 average and 39 hits in 26 games.
