CARSON, Calif.- The Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Bakersfield softball teams split a CCAA doubleheader today at the Toro Diamond in Carson. The Toros (16-5-1, 12-4 CCAA) took the nine-inning game one 3-2, but the 'Runners posted a 2-0 shutout in the second game of the twinbill.

CSUB struck first in the fourth inning when Tara Licuanan belted a lead off single down the left field line, followed by a single sliced up the left side by Renee Rubio. A sacrifice bunt by Katie King, would score Licuanan and put the 'Runners on the board first 1-0. With baserunners on first and second and two outs, Jenny Rios sent one down the left side to drive home Hilvers. In that inning alone, CSUB posted three of its seven hits.

The 'Runners used tough pitching and defense up until the sixth inning, when Toro Renee Snyder got the first hit of the game for the Toros, as she sent one deep to center field. A 'Runner error would put runners on second and third for the Toros, as Ally Webber took the plate. Webber, who is hitting at a .333 clip this season, nailed one to the shortstop, and another 'Runner error would drive home pinch runner Lori Moreno to put CSUDH on the board. Another miscue by the CSUB defense would allow the tying run to score for the Toros and ultimately send the game into extra innings.

In the bottom of the ninth, Val Long singled through the left side and was moved to second off a nice sacrifice by Clarissa Parga. Courtney Woltz sent a blistering single down the right field line to score Jo Orozco, who pinch ran for Long.

CSUB had seven hits in the loss, with Renee Rubio and Katie King getting two apiece.

Erin Kelly was charged with the loss, as she is now 12-5 on the season.

The Toros managed five hits in game one, with Snyder going 1 of 2. Val Long threw five innings in the win, allowing two hits and no runs.

Long is now an impressive 8-1 on the season.

In the second game of the twinbill, it was obvious that the 'Runners did not want to leave Carson with an 0-2 record, as they kept the Toros to only one hit in the game. CSUB tallied seven hits, including a homerun by Amber Mills, the first of her collegiate career.

CSUB took the 1-0 lead off the Mills homerun in the top of third.

CSUDH's only hit came in the bottom of that inning, when Cindy Gates beat out the throw to first.

The 'Runners would score again in the fourth, when after back to back hits to put runners on the corners. 'Runner Sarah McClain scored Katie King to add the second run to the scoreboard.

Christie Hill notched her fourth win of the season in the one-hitter, as she is now 4-2.

Toro hurler Kim O'Hanian falls to 7-3.

CSUDH is now 16-5-1 and 12-4 in CCAA action, while CSUDH is 20-12 overall and 11-5 in CCAA play.

The teams will meet tomorrow in a conference contest up in Bakersfield, to makeup for last weekend's rainout.
