TURLOCK The two-hour rain delay wasnt
a problem for Warrior starter Scott Taylor.
The senior right-hander faced just three
batters over the minimum in leading the Cal State Stanislaus
baseball team to a 6-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday
afternoon at soggy Warrior Baseball Field.
Under light rain, the Warriors got out on in
front 2-0 after the first inning. Cal State Dominguez Hills scored
in the second, but that was all Taylor would allow in the four-hit
complete game victory.
The game, which was scheduled for a noon start,
was delayed twice due to steady rain. The sky finally opened up
enough for the game to start at 2 p.m.
With the win, the Warriors won the four-game
set three games to one and improved to 13-17-1 overall and 9-11 in
the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Warriors have
won three straight games.
Cody Crossman led off the home half of the
first with a single and stole second. After moving over to third
on a Jeff Crabtree fly out, Crossman scored on a Jeren Livernois
sac fly to right for the first run. Kyle Dennis, who had reached
on a walk, scored later in the inning on an Alan Dunn single up
the middle.
The Toros (14-16, 9-14 CCAA) responded by
scoring a run in the second when Frank Perez singled in Ruben
Salazar, who had doubled to start the inning.
Taylor allowed just three base runners from
that point on a hit batsman in the third, a single in a
seventh and another single in the ninth. At one point in the game,
Taylor retired 10 consecutive batters almost all of them on
ground outs.
Dunn finished with a 3-for-4 performance. He
also scored twice and drove in a run. Crossman, Dennis and John
Abdelkerim each had two hits and Marc Duvall drove in two runs
with his fifth inning single to center.
Four different players each had a hit for Cal
State Dominguez Hills. Starter Rick Moore gave up six runs on 10
hits in five innings.
The Toros have a home date with Biola Wednesday
(Mar. 26), with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.
