Dominguez Hills (20-7-1, 15-5 CCAA) swept San Francisco State
(16-19, 9-11 CCAA) 3-0 and 4-0 in a conference softball
doubleheader Friday afternoon. The losses snapped the Gators
six-game winning streak.
Game one was scoreless until the third inning.
The Toros took advantage of three Gator errors to score two runs.
In the fifth inning with Cindy Gates at third, Natalie Sharp
singled to right field to score Gates. That made it 3-0, a lead
the Toros hung on to.
Rachel Darrow had two hits to lead the attack.
Sonja Garnett gave up six hits, three runs, one
earned and struck out three batters.
The story in game two was the Toros taking
advantage of SF State miscues. In the third inning with one out,
Johana Orozco reached base on a Gator error. Orozco stoled second.
After a fly out, a pick off throw to second sailed into the
outfield allowing Orozco to reach third. Following a walk, a
fielders choice by Sharp allowed Orozco to score.
SFSU remained in the hunt until the seventh
inning. The Toros scored three runs off of two hits and two errors
to seal the game.
Kim OHanian picked up the win for the
Toros with six strike outs and gave up one hit, a single to
Chrissy Hildebrandt in the fourth inning.
Holly Pearce gave up four hits, four runs, none
of them earned and struck out two batters in 6 and 1/3rd innings.
In the seventh inning, Erica Tianco recorded her 400th career
assist. She joined Maria Gonzales (1990-92) and Gwen Kagaoan
(1994-97) as the third Gator to record 400 career assists.
