State Gators (15-21-1, 10-14 CCAA) won game four of the four-game
CCAA series with the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros (18-18,
12-16) this afternoon 21-3 to split the series.
The Gators scored first in the first inning as
Jesse Acosta reached on a hit by pitch and advanced to second as
Ryan Cope reached on an error. Shane Stover singled Acosta home
for the Gators first run.
SFSU scored two more in the third inning as
Rich Daly singled with one out and advanced to third on a double
by Rico Orozco. Wes Bentley singled both Daly and Orozco home to
make it 3-0 SFSU.
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored twice in the
fourth inning as Ruben Salazar singled and then stole second. Zac
Cort reached on an error and both Cort and Salazar advanced one
base on a wild pitch. Frank Perez hit a two-run single to score
Cort and Salazar as the Toros drew closer to the Gators 3-2.
The Gators then scored 17 runs in the next
three innings including putting a nine spot on the board in the
sixth inning. In the fifth inning, Acosta hit his first of two
home runs a grand slam to left to score James Rivero, Keegan
Moore, and Bentley. Then in the sixth inning, SFSUs big hit
came off the bat of Scott Martin hit a grand slam home run down
the left field line to score Stover, Cope, and Acosta.
SFSU added one more run in the eighth for its
twenty-first run of the ball game on twenty-one hits. Cal State
Dominguez Hills third run of the game came off the bat of
Joe Gevas, a solo home run to right field.
Acosta finished the day for SFSU going 4 for 5
with four runs scored, nine runs batted in, and two home runs (his
second and third of the season). Bentley also had four hits for
SFSU.
Lance Stevens picked up the win going seven
innings, striking out five, and walking two while giving up five
hits and two runs (of which one was earned). Stevens is now 3-4 on
the season.
Brian Cortes (3-2) picked up the loss pitching
4.1 innings, striking out two, and walking two while giving up
nine hits and seven runs (six earned) for the Toros.
The Toros next have a home game with Cal
Baptist Wednesday (April 2). |
