After going an impressive 5-0 in pool play at
the Easton Tournament of Champions, the Cal State Dominguez Hills
softball team was eliminated from play after the Toros suffered a
2-4 setback to Hawaii-Pacific University.
The Seawolves took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of
the first inning and that was all it took for HPU to go on in
championship play. The Toros two runs came in the second and third
innings, but with just four hits in the game, it was hard for the
Toros to find scoring opportunities. CSUDH would leave seven
runners on base.
Natalie Sharp had a double for the Toros on the
day, her third of the tournament.
Ally Webber had a strong tournament, batting
.381 on the weekend with a team leading eight hits. Cindy Gates
and Sharp had six hits apiece for the Toros.
In the circle, Janet Briscoe tossed two
complete games which were shutout wins. She struckout 16 batters
and allowed no runs for a 0.00 ERA. Val Long was 2-1 in 18.2
innings of action, while Kim O'Hanian added a win to her ledger.
The Toros (28-9-1) will take on CCAA leader UC
Davis in a conference doubleheader slated for Friday, April 11 at
1:30 p.m.
CSUDH will wrap up its 2003 home schedule when
they host the Wildcats of Chico State on Saturday with first pitch
scheduled for 12:00.
