Cindy Gates Named CCAA Softball Player of the Week
Freshman third baseman earns conference accolades

CARSON, Calif.- It has been announced that Cal State Dominguez Hills third baseman Cindy Gates has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week for the week of March 31 through April 6.

Gates, a freshman from Victorville, led the Toros to a 7-1 week that included a 5-1 record at the Cal State Stanislaus Easton Tournament of Champions. She hit .391 (9 for 23) with 9 runs scored, 2 runs batted in, 3 walks and 6 stolen bases in 7 attempts.

She was instrumental in an eight inning 4-3 victory over powerhouse Humboldt State with two hits in three attempts with two runs. Gates also played stellar defense at the hot corner, handling 16 of 17 defensive chances, including 13 assists.

She finished the week with three multi-hit games and received All-Tournament First Team recognition.
