Toros Sweep Sea Warriors, Gevas Etches His Name in Record Book
CSUDH takes game one 6-5 and game two 4-0, Gevas hits 15th homerun of the season

CARSON, Calif.-Mike Milstead's two-run triple highlighted a five-run fourth inning in the first game of today's non-conference doubleheader to propel Cal State Dominguez Hills to a 6-5 win. In the nightcap, senior outfielder Joe Gevas tied a 25 year-old school record for homeruns in a season with 15, when he sent a solo shot over the rightfield fence in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 4-0 win and two-game sweep of HPU.

Toro starter Larry Robles (5-1) retired the first five batters before Hawaii Pacific jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Ikaika DuPont got on after a two-out bloop double to center field followed by a run-scoring single from Derek Little.CSUDH tied the game in the third on David Keesee's fourth home run of the season, a leadoff blast to left field.

The Sea Warriors took a brief 3-1 lead in the fourth after an RBI single by Alika Kuraoka and a run-scoring groundout by Ikaika DuPont.

The Toros took the lead in the bottom of the fourth pushing across five runs on five hits and an error. Zac Cort got the scoring started with an RBI groundout followed by run-scoring singles by Keesee and Efren Esparza. Milstead then knocked in the final two runs of the inning with a triple in the right-center field gap for a 6-3 lead.

Hawaii Pacific trimmed the margin to 6-5 in the sixth after RBI singles from Kuraoka and DuPont, but Robles went on to retire four of the final five batters to earn his fifth win of the year.

In the nightcap, Toro hurler Brian Cortez went the distance, throwing a seven-hit shutout for his fifth win of the season.

Ruben Salzar put the Toros on the board first when the third baseman nailed a two-run shot to right center in the opening inning. In the fourth inning, Tony Marquez started things off with a single down the left field line. David Ekes, who went two of three in the game, sent a double deep into left center, placing runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly by Frank Perez would score Marquez.

Joe Gevas tied a 25 year-old school record for homeruns in a season, when in the bottom of the sixth he cracked a solo shot to right center to put the Toros up 4-0.

CSUDH and HPU will meet again tomorrow in a non-conference doubleheader at Toro Field. First pitch is slated for noon.
