The Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team
went 1-1 in Day One action of the Mountain Dew Classic, hosted by
CS Bakersfield.
In game one, CSUDH faced off against CCAA rival
Cal State Bakersfield. The 'Runners defeated the Toros 6-0. CSUDH
was only able to get three hits, one each by Natalie Sharp,
Courtney Woltz and Cindy Gates. The 'Runners scored five of their
six runs in the top of the fourth inning with two outs.
CSUDH did put together a good defensive play,
as a relay by outfielder Renee Snyder to second baseman Dani
Proctor to catcher Daisy Flores prevented a homerun by CSUB.
Kim O'Hanian was the losing pitcher in the
contest. She threw 2 strikeouts, allowed seven hits with two of
those being triples, and walked four batters.
In game two, CSUDH took advantage of weak
pitching by Chico State, to post a 3-2 victory over the Wildcats.
CSUC threw ten walks, and the Toros used a four-hit attack in the
winning effort. The Toros got two runs in the second inning when
two Toros were walked and then advanced by a wild pitch. A single
by Dani Proctor and an error by the Wildcat catcher would score
two CSUDH runs.
CSUDH struck again in the bottom of the sixth
when a leadoff walk by CSUC followed by a single by Daisy Flores
to score Jo Orozco would put CSUDH ahead.
CSUDH will continue tournament action tomorrow.
At 9 am the Toros will meet the Aggies of UC Davis to conclude
game two of the CCAA doubleheader on April 11, that was suspended
due to darkness. The game was tied at 10 apiece after six innings.
