Cal State Dominguez Hills pulled out an 11-10
win over CCAA leader UC Davis Saturday. The game, which was the
conclusion of game two of the April 11 doubleheader that was
called at a 10-10 tie after six innings due to darkness, was
concluded today at the Mountain Dew Classic held up in
Bakersfield.
The home team Toros sent the one and two UCD
batters down, but a base hit up the middle by Aggie Susan
Churchwell would put a runner in scoring position. But tough Toro
defense would lead to an out and retire the inning.
Ally Webber was hit by a pitch to lead off the
bottom of the seventh and was sacrificed over by Dani Proctor. A
basehit by Cindy Gates would put runners on the corners. An Aggie
error would then allow Webber to score the winning run.
Back to tourney action....
CSUDH opened the day with CS San Bernardino.
The Coyotes got out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning, mostly due
to a three run homer by Tracy Schioppi
The Toros worked their way back into the
contest with two runs in the third and three runs in the fifth.
They tied it up in the sixth when Ally Webber nailed a single and
was sacrificed over by Dani Proctor. After Gates was hit by a
pitch, Renee Snyder drove a RBI single deep to score Webber. An
error by the Coyote catcher would score Gates. CSUDH went ahead
7-6 to post the win in the game.
In game two, errors plagued the Toros as the
Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus only needed six innings to post
the 8-0 mercy win. Jackie Miller was in the circle for CSUS and
threw a one-hitter, while the Toros committed six errros.
So far, CSUDH is 2-2 in tournament action and
will play UC Davis Sunday.
