SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State Dominguez Hills took the opener 5-1 and held on for a 5-4 victory in the nightcap Sunday as they swept a California Collegiate Athletic Association softball doubleheader from Cal State San Bernardino in the final regular season games of the 2003 season.

The Toros, ranked No. 5 in the final West Region poll, will await the official word from the NCAA on Monday on the seedings for the six-team regional that will probably be contested at Cal State Bakersfield, the region's No. 1 team.

Janet Briscoe scattered six hits and allowed just one run -- the 10th homer of the season by the Coyotes' Tracie Schioppi -- in a 5-1 victory in the opener. The Toros were aided by five Coyote errors and seven walks that produced three unearned runs.

Natalie Sharp had two hits and drove in two runs for the Toros, 37-15-1 on the season and 23-9 in the CCAA. The Coyotes finished the season 12-48 overall and 7-23 in the CCAA.

In the nightcap, Danielle Proctor had three hits and scored twice while Sharp drove in two runs with a double and a single in an 11-hit attack for the Toros.

The Coyotes were trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Schioppi led off with a double and Sharmaine Kendrick blasted her eighth homer of the season to score Schioppi ahead of her to cut the lead to 5-2.

Kim O'Hanian, who pitched the first two innings before leaving in favor of Valerie Long, came back in after Nicole Gomez reached on a single and got out of the inning aided by a double play.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Coyotes closed the gap to 5-4 on a two-run single by Gomez and had the tying run at third base with two out but O'Hanian got Coyotes pitcher Diana Sutton to fly out to left to end the game and the Coyotes season.

Kendrick was three-for-four with 2 RBI while Gomez was two for three and two RBI.
