CARSON, Calif. -- Former Cal State Dominguez
Hills Associate Athletics Director Sam Lagana will serve as the
master of ceremonies for the annual CSUDH Athletics Awards
Reception on campus at the Aquatics Center on Tuesday, May 13.
Lagana will be joined by several guest presenters and friends of
the university to honor student-athletes and community supporters.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the event begins at 6:00 p.m.
Lagana, the Associate Athletics Director at Cal
State Dominguez Hills from 1993-96 and acting Director in 1994-95,
is the Senior Advancement Officer for Athletics at Pepperdine
University. Prior to arriving at the Malibu campus, Lagana served
as the National Director of Pursuing Victory With Honor -
CHARACTER COUNTS! Sports, and managed all sports-related programs
at the Josephson Institute of Ethics. He had direct oversight over
the "Ethics In Sports" training programs which included
the development of national summits in youth sports and amateur
basketball with the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
For six years after he left Cal State Dominguez
Hills, Lagana served as the Executive Director of the John R.
Wooden Award and the Director of Sports Marketing and Business
Development at the Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) from
1996-2001.
Lagana is a well-known commercial voice-over
talent, emcee and sports announcer, with credits including Los
Angeles Avengers Arena Football, Davis Cup tennis, Women's
Professional Billiards plus collegiate basketball, football,
soccer and volleyball. Lagana served as the official voice of Pro
Beach Volleyball for 18 years.
CSUDH Athletics Director Ron Prettyman is
thrilled that Lagana could arrange his schedule to be a vital part
of this special reception.
"It is an honor and pleasure for
us to have Sam as the host of this years Annual CSUDH Athletics
Awards Reception. Sam served several years at CSUDH and we are
pleased that he is coming back to visit the TORO family and serve
as this years emcee."
This annual event serves as an opportunity to
spotlight and honor all CSUDH student-athletes for their hard work
