Softball Season Ends at Hands of Western New Mexico in Regional Play
May 9, 2003

Complete Box Score

Cal State Dominguez Hills was facing elimination Friday at the NCAA II West Regional, hosted by Cal State Bakersfield. They were facing the #2 seed Mustangs of Western New Mexico. Both the Toros and the Mustangs lost their first games of opening action yesterday and it was a must win situation today to advance.

The Mustangs used two two shot homeruns and a two RBI single to take the game 6-0 and eliminate CSUDH from NCAA action. Although the Toros had many opportunities in the opening innings, they were unable to drive runs across.

CSUDH had four of its five hits in the game in the first three innings and left four on base in the opening two. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when WMSU used two-hits to score two runs. Danielle Harmon led the inning off with a single to center and a two base error would advance her to third. After a base runner was put on by balls and was sacrificed over to second, a two RBI single up the middle by Shellie Broyles would score two for the Mustangs.

After another scoreless inning by the Toros, WNMU got a two run shot over the right field fence by Debbie Yescas to put the Mustangs up 4-0. The same would happen again in the bottom of the sixth as Tasha Catanach would send another one over the right field fence to score another two runs and put the game out of reach for the Toros at 6-0.

Cindy Gates got three of the Toros five hits on the day. She went a perfect three of three from the plate. Daisy Flores had the ballgame's only double, a leadoff which came in the top of the second.

Kim O'Hanian got the start in the circle for the Toros today. She threw five complete innings, gave up five hits and allowed four runs. O'Hanian closes out her freshman campaign with a 16-8 ledger.

The Toros completed the 2003 season with a 37-17-1 record. The 37 wins set a new CSUDH record for wins in a season.
