Long Selected to Verizon Academic All-District Softball Second Team
Sophomore hurler earns academic accolades

CARSON, Calif.-Sophomore Val Long (St. Mary's) has been selected to the Verizon Academic All-American College Division Softball District VIII Second Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA).

Long, a sophomore pitcher out of Stockton, CA, recorded a 15-6 ledger on the 2003 season. She posted a team-low 1.64 ERA in 140.2 innings of action, ranking her fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) pitching statistics.

Behind Long's performance in the circle, Cal State Dominguez Hills went 37-17-1 on the season. The 37 wins mark a new CSUDH record for victories in a season. The Toros also made their first appearance in the NCAA tournament in 14 years.

In the classroom, Long is recording an impressive 3.61 grade point average in Public Administration.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Verizon Academic All-America® teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large and women's at-large. A first team, second team and third team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions.
