CARSON, Calif.--Outfielder Mike Milstead
(Murrieta Valley HS) has been selected to the 2003 Verizon
Academic All-America® College Division Baseball Third Team as
announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(Co-SIDA) Tuesday (May 27).
Milstead, a senior outfielder from Murrieta,
CA., earned the top academic honor after compiling a 3.70 GPA in
in the classroom while majoring in Physical Education. He is the
only player from the State of California and the entire California
Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) represented on this
prestigious team.
On the field, Milstead led the Cal State
Dominguez Hills with 13 stolen bases and was fourth with a .362
batting average ranking him fifth in the CCAA. In 2003, Milstead
finished with four home runs, 20 runs driven in and was third on
the squad with 59 hits.
This year marks the 52nd year of the Academic
All-America program. Over 12,500 students have been named Academic
All-America team members at colleges and universities at all
levels for every recognized NCAA sport.
