This series of
journal entries is from sophomore defender Jeff Kunze. Jeff
begins his third season in a CSUDH uniform after coming to the
program in 2000 from Edison High School in Huntington Beach,
CA.
Kunze has
established himself as one of the top defenders in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and was
named to the All-CCAA team as a freshman during the 2000
season when the Toros won the NCAA II National Championship.
Kunze serves as one of the Team Captains for the 2002 squad. |
 Coach
Joe Flanagan and Jeff Tuttle said that we were going to have a
break-out game and sure enough it happened. Yesterday, we played
UC San Diego at Dominguez Hills. They were supposed to be a good
team and in the past they have always been solid. However, they
did not look like the normal UCSD men's soccer team when the final
whistle blew and they had been beaten 4-0.
I think the difference between this game and
other games is that we finally finished our opportunities to
score. I think our defense is usually consistent. On the other
hand, our offense usually has a different person winning the game
for us every time. The difference this game was that we had four
different people step up and put the ball in the back of the net.
After the game, a reporter from the South Bay
Daily Breeze came and interviewed all the guys that play
on our defense and he was asking the question, "What makes
your team so special?" Everyone answered that our team has
chemistry and heart. Anyone on our team would do anything for the
teammate standing next to him. We have a special bond on and off
the field. Whether it is playing video games in between school and
soccer or celebrating after a victory, we always appreciate each
other's company.
When I used to play for my club soccer team, we
also had a great deal of team chemistry. I never thought that I
would be a part of something that special. Then I came to
Dominguez Hills. My experience here has been great. From going to
team dinners at Joe and Julie's house (best dinners ever), to
meeting so many good people.
I once heard someone say, "You've done
nothing yet", and for all my teammates I think we have done
something. However, there is many more teams to conquer and we
have to go into every game knowing that this team wants to beat
us.
Till Next Time,
Jeff
PS - I want to give my best wishes to Ryan
Taylor and Kevin Sosa. I hope everything works out. |
