This series of
journal entries is from sophomore defender Jeff Kunze. Jeff
begins his third season in a CSUDH uniform after coming to the
program in 2000 from Edison High School in Huntington Beach,
CA.
Kunze has
established himself as one of the top defenders in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and was
named to the All-CCAA team as a freshman during the 2000
season when the Toros won the NCAA II National Championship.
Kunze serves as one of the Team Captains for the 2002 squad. |
 I
would like to start off this entry by congratulating the Angels
for earning a spot in the World Series. A statement was made by
the Angels making it to the World Series. The statement is that
anything is possible if the desire and work rate is present.
Our soccer team's desire has been hot and cold
this year. Last Friday, we played Sonoma State and we beat them
2-0. I could tell during our warm-up that our team was ready to
play. Then, Sunday came, and so did our game against San Francisco
State. The desire to battle and win was not present. To give you
an idea of how pathetic we played, here is a quote from one of the
spectators, "Hey Joe, that was a pretty boring game to watch."
After witnessing a poor effort by our team, Joe
Flanagan decided to have practice on Monday (usually a day off).
For this practice, the soccer balls were nowhere in sight. We did
fitness the whole practice for a couple reasons. The first reason
is to prove to Joe and Jeff that we are willing to work for what
we want to achieve. Second, and most important, to fight through
the pain and fatigue as a team. We all know what it is going to
take to win a National Championship and it is time to switch into
"fifth gear".
The true test will come this weekend. Our last
road trip, we were defeated twice by teams we could have beaten.
Now we are preparing to leave for another road trip. We will play
two good teams and definitely be pushed to the limit. I have a
good feeling about this road trip because I know that all of the
guys on the team are hungry to win and a search for redemption is
also hanging over our heads since the last road trip.
Before I leave you, I want to congratulate one
of my fellow defenders for getting CCAA Player of the Week. Nate
Reeves, keep leading by example.
Till Next Time,
Jeff
PS- I want to thank Garret, Helen, and Caitlan
for supporting us on Sunday and I am looking forward to seeing
Tony and Layla. Best wishes to the Newlyweds. Oh, I would also
like to congratulate Sean Lockhart for making a huge step in his
life. |
