CARSON, Calif.--Cal State Dominguez Hills
All-America forward Eduardo Serrano (Toluca, Mexico) scored 6:50
into the game as the No. 3-ranked Toros blanked Western Washington
University, 3-0, in a non-conference men's soccer contest
Wednesday.
CSUDH, which improved to 3-0-0, was ranked No.3
in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top
25. Western Washington meanwhile drops to 0-2-1 to begin the
season.
Serrano's goal came on a header to the far post
off a long cross by Victor Guerrero (Santa Ana/Century HS), who
assisted on all three goals. Francisco Corona (Compton/Compton HS)
scored in the 74th minute beating Viking goalie Ben Dragavon
one-on-one to the near post. Wilmer Lopez (Inglewood/Inglewood HS)
then rounded out the scoring for CSUDH in the 89th minute taking a
deflection off the post and blasting his shot to the back of the
new for his first goal of the year. Serrano also had an assist on
Lopez's goal.
CSUDH had a 14-12 edge in shots and a 9-2
advantage in corner kicks. Toros' goalkeeper Javier Barragan (Long
Beach/LB Jordan HS) was credited with five saves while notching
his second shutout of the year.
The win avenged an upset 2-1 loss last year
against Western Washington in Bellingham.
