LOS ANGELES - Cal State L.A. junior Jesus Leon
flicked home a header on a pass from Juan Poblete with 5:44 left
in regulation as the CSULA men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie
with second-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills this afternoon at
Jesse Owens Stadium.
Cal State Dominguez Hills now stands 6-0-1,
2-0-1 CCAA, while Cal State L.A. improves to 3-1-2, 1-0-2 CCAA.
With the tie, the teams remain 1-2 in the CCAA Central Division.
CSUDH owns seven points in league play while CSULA owns five.
The first half was played extremely even, with
CSUDH goalie Javier Barragan making a couple of nice saves to keep
the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard. The Toros controlled the
offensive play in the second half, outshooting CSULA by a 14-5
margin the period.
CSUDH got on the board at 83:27 when Victor
Guerrero converted on a penalty kick after Cal State L.A. was
called for a foul inside the penalty box. The Golden Eagles
answered 49 seconds later when Leon's diving play in front of the
net connected with a perfect pass from Poblete to knot the game at
1-1. Both teams would have excellent chances to score in the 20
minutes of overtime, but neither could find the back of the net.
CSUDH is back in CCAA action this Friday at
Toro Field against Cal State San Bernardino. |
