CARSON, Calif.--Michelle Sena's (San Pedro/San
Pedro HS) second half goal gave Cal State Dominguez Hills their
first win over rival Cal Poly Pomona since the 1999 season in
California Collegiate Athletic Association action Monday night at
Toro Field.
With the victory, CSUDH is now 8-1-0 overall
and a perfect 5-0-0 in CCAA play. Cal Poly Pomona drops to 4-3-1
and 2-3-0 in league action.
It was a defensive battle the entire match with
Cal State Dominguez Hills dictating most of the action in the
game. But the Toros broke through at 75:57 when Sena picked the
perfect time to register her first goal of the 2003 season taking
a beautiful pass from Laci Gruner (Long Beach/Mayfair HS) and
knocked her shot to the upper far netting for the 1-0 lead.
The Toros defense would hold the Bronco
scoreless over the final 14 minutes to hold on for the win. In the
game, CSUDH outshot CPP 18-12.
CSUDH is back in conference action this Friday
when they travel to Phoenix, AZ to take on Grand Canyon. First
kick is set for 4:30 p.m.
