CARSON, Calif. -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills
womens basketball team continues its preseason practice of
community outreach, already having completed two of the scheduled
four visits to Broadacre Avenue Elementary School, just southeast
of the CSUDH campus in Carson, Calif.
Now in their second year visiting Broadacre
Avenue Elementary School, this year's Toros spend an hour and a
half per session with the students, providing Broadacre with
positive student-athlete role models from within its own
community. During these 90-minute intervals, the CSUDH
student-athletes tutor, counsel and share stories with the
elementary students, all under the direction of the school's
administrators.
According to head coach Van Girard,
this opportunity is "our chance to provide positive examples
to children in our local community."
Coach Girard's squad is scheduled for two more
visits to the Broadacre Avenue Elementary campus this fall, and
four additional visits set for the spring semester.
