CARSON, Calif.--After suffering its first loss of the season last Sunday at UC San Diego, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team rebounded nicely with a 3-0 shutout over Seattle University Friday night at Toro Field.

CSUDH, ranked No. 6 in the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, elevates to 10-1-1 overall while Seattle University drops to 4-4-0.

The Toros benefited early on an own goal to take a 1-0 lead. Seattle forward Pat Doran headed back a pass but did not see his goalie Brandon Sewell coming off his line. The ball rolled past Sewell and into the back of the net at 13:11.

Michael Jimenez (Gardena/Bishop Montgomery HS) earned the Toros next goal at 22:22 off a corner kick. Wilmer Lopez (Inglewood/Inglewood HS) tapped the ball from the corner to Victor Guerrero (Santa Ana/Century HS), who dribbled to the end line and sent his cross inside the box. Sewell got a hand on the ball but was unable to hold on. Jimenez seized the opportunity, collecting the ball and cracking his shot to the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.

After the half, CSUDH scored its final goal at 55:09 on Mikael Hernholm's (La Verne/Bonita HS) second goal of the year. Hernholm dribbled 40 yards, beating two Redhawk defenders at the top of the box, and then sent his blast to the upper near post for the final margin.

Tonight's victory was even more impressive considering the Toros were without starting goalie Javier Barragan (Long Beach/LB Jordan HS) and defender Kevin Sosa (Torrance/Torrance HS), who both had to sit out tonight due to receiving red cards in last Sunday's match.

Toro freshman goalie Austin Anderson (Odessa, TX) earned his first collegiate start in goal and made the most of it by shutting out the Redhawks.

CSUDH outshot Seattle University 23-9, and also had a 10-2 advantage on the corner kicks.
